Yup.... with a bit of luck another one converting to scooby power So neigh sayers get your negative comments over with so by the time you finish I’ll start my conversion. Hope to keep the 003 auto box with a 2l engine.
I think, based on the issues you've had, your making a wise move. Ive been weighing up the cost of rebuilding Majors FI type 4, the availability of parts is not good, what I need, in an ideal world comes to £4,200. Fellows conversion offset by the costs of a fully working 2.0 type 4 is quite favourable to me right now.
That's another option. There is a breakers yard a couple of miles away from work, he specialises in Subaru parts..I feel that a nip over may be beneficial
Go for it. A few knobby comments from the haters is a small price to pay for 120+ bhp of fit and forget reliability..
You people tearing the heart and soul out of these buses ... how will you sleep at night ... I'm disgusted that anyone would think of doing this etc.
I think he was suggesting Mark could do it himself, not you. Have you got a company in mind? Hope it goes smoothly
Im in the middle of converting my Westie EarlyBay - have 90% of the parts to complete and its fairly straightforward. Decided to go EJ25 from a 2001 Legacy mated to a 5 speed flipped box - should be good for 170bhp and happy cruising at 70mph Aim to be completed by March 18
Nice. I don’t want anything flashy like that. Just happy if it can be reliable. I’d like to be done by April to give it a months worth of driving before holiday in May. Worst case we go in the car... again!
Wont be flashy - believe me! Im sure the bones of the conversion be it 2.0, 2.2 or 2.5 are all the same If you are doing it yourself there are some great parts available - ive gone for RJES engine mount and rad kit although others are available Nick Tune did the box and loom for me - which was a great service At the min ive just ripped the engine down to a short block to replace the headgaskets, waterpump, sort an oil leak from the oil pump and give it a refresh with new seals, leads, plugs and gaskets. Waiting on a hefty parts delivery before rebuilding the engine, installing the box, hydraulic clutch and mounting the rad and heater. Space in my garage is tight but I should be ok in the coming months Good luck if you decide to go it alone - Fellows do a fantastic service and their conversions look amazing although as before other services are available
Fellows won’t touch mine due to auto box. They clearly want the stuff they know they can do and knock out quick time. I’m basically doing what you have done. RJES and will get in touch with Nick Tune.
