RHD sliding door lock code 224843653A mines decided not to lock? @davidoft? can these be taken apart without killing it?
I recently did exactly this. I ground the heads off the 5 rivets (door side) and the bigger hollow one. Stripped and cleaned all the bits and lubed with graphite powder. The tricky bit was drilling a 2.5mm hole in the end of the ground off rivets and putting back together with tiny self tappers. (Re-riveting wasn't an option for me). I just left the big hollow one as is. I reckoned that once bolted back to the door it should hold it all in place anyway. Don't know if it will hold/last but time will tell.
Don't get me wrong, it's a flippin' fiddly job. I found the main spring was broken in mine. I picked up a different earlier lock at an auto jumble for a tenner and took the spring out of it - luckily it was the same spring. So I do have a few lock internal spares if you need them, all except the main spring
I might have a spare one of these, don't build your hopes up but I had two and thought I only sold one, I'll check.. Ron
If your struggling, give these folks a try https://classicvolkswagenspares.com/ great to deal with & good quality parts too
I've got one from a LHD bus - just taken it out - can't see why it wouldn't work on an opposite side with maybe needing to adjust the locking flipper leaver. It has different part numbers. If it is of help let me know.
Thanks but the whole body will be opposite hand. Unless the insides are transferable maybe. I'll have a look at mine later.
Ahhh....might be getting crossed wires here....is this the lock thats in the handle or the locking mechanism? I've got the small barrel....... Not to worry..
