I've been having some idling and running issues. Still did not stop me from going to show n go, spitting fire out of the tailpipe, dying on the turnpike and getting towed home. Took 2nd at show n go!

Ive been messing around w/ a new rad set up and location. Mind you when I started testing this new setup it was 95 degs out and I was running at 220. Not where I really wanna be running. Did a few different configurations w/ the fans and scoop. Still getting up there. Think I may need a more powerful cfm rate. I was pinned at 210 prior to the switch.

Also been messing w/ a new fuel system setup to get that damn MK3 tank out of the third row. What a difference the fuel cell will be and its gonna run to the tank fill outside so no more climbing in the bus to fill the BVR.

In a nutshell. Im still under construction lol Designing a bolt on A arm front suspension. Lets see how that pans out. Stay tuned.

Looks great dude. I feel your pain with the love hate relationship and the young kids/working on bus balance.

With regard to the high temp, as every little helps, do you think relocating the air intake/filter location to inside the rear quarter would be better? Also, i have been watching the busaru videos on youtube, and the set up he uses for cooling rads utilises the rear quarter vents perfectly, and draws extra air through with fans.

here is the vid at the point where it shows the fans, he does explain it later on properly in another vid in the series..

his air intake/filter is located behind the fan, so more than likely only ever taking cool air, which would help.

Also, higher CFM would work as you mentioned, or put in another rad?

  17. Thanks man! And thanks for your input on my woes. Ive thought about toying w/ the intake filter location. Really didnt have much success on how and where I could route it. I would love to run the double rad setup that busaru is running.I have a 2 core and a 3 core rad that I can use for to duplicate setup.

I have an oil cooler that I want to slap on. Might need to upgrade to a bigger cooler. I was going to try and fit it up in the side vent but its too long of a run to me. I would roughly need 8-10ft to run a supply and return to that vent. The cooler I had fit perfect in that spot but its not happening. Trying to cool everything down.
My thing w/ adding 2 more rads in the engine bay just adds more heat in there. I have also questioned how much air really gets pulled in from those outside vents.I was looking into those earz to extend the scoop into those vents . Or just design my own to make a huge inlet for air. I am trying to kep the exterior untouched (besides suspension and wheels) lol

My earlier setup I used was a passat vr6 rad and when I pulled it out and examined it noticed the tubing going through the core were totally different from the aluminum rad. The VR rad had like 13mm tubing going through it and the aluminum rad has these flat channels in them. Also in my thoughts was thinking that maybe the 2nd row was acting as a heat barrier and the fins were causing a restriction. Maybe Im totally wrong but I have been racking my brain everyday since Ive got this thing running lol

I don't think it would add too much heat to the engine bay. The ears on the rear quarters are ready made scoops. I would definitely be taking advantage of those. And with the fan pulling air through you wouldn't need to worry about how much air flow they get naturally.

  19. Got out to 2 shows w/ the bus. I really wish I would have taken it out to mk1 madness but there's always next year!

    Good times.
Got around to my fuel cell finally. No more stock mk3 tank. Jaz fuel cell is a go.
[IMG] gotta cut down the filler neck and I'm done w/ that.
A year later still going. Think I may have found my cooling issue. [IMG]. Replaced it w/ the high flow schimmel performance water pump. [IMG] definitely made a difference. Stayed pinned at 195 degrees. I like that! [IMG]

  20. Loving this, Just read through the build thread in full.

With the price of these buses rocketing people get reluctant to chop them about like they used to.
