What's wrong with Subaru engines in bay window campers

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Pickles, Mar 30, 2017.

  1. A thread created to allow @monkeyvanwestybike to vent his angst against those who have, are or would install a Subaru engine in their VW bus.

  4. Hes entitled to his opinion isnt he! Is this as you think hes not playing nicely and making a mess of threads about scoobies perchance?

  5. I suppose it's like doing a heart transplant when there's no need too

The sound of that Aircooled engine is irreplaceable so it's losses part of its soul:(

I don't care if it goes faster or more reliable because it already is with a 1600cc for 46 years:cool:

On the other hand I understand why people do it but I'd buy a T5 instead

Bye bye bye bye bye bye bye!

  8. Your bus - your rules is my attitude
I think its great people are doing different things with their vehicles and if that keeps them on the road and useable why not!
Personally I would love a 2.5 scooby lump fitted with a 5 speed box and associated brake improvements so I could cruise at a higher speed and not worry about breakdowns and crappy pattern parts exploding in the engine bay!
Im yet to go for a drive with anyone that has one fitted but I have been told they are a pleasure to drive with loads of torque and quiet running
One day I might be able to afford to do the conversion myself

And having conversions such as scoobies is what makes each bus individual, as does a big type 1, type 4 and so on.

That said an all original bus is also appealing too.

I'd go for a Scooby in our westy tomorrow if I could!

Aircooled for the "purists' freedom of choice for the rest.

Personally I prefer the aircooled, but quite like a well fitted Scooby.

Each to their own at the end of day innit! I was happy with Aircooled for years, now I'm happy with the Scooby lump. I have a mate that has been a beetle man since the dawn of time, now he puts tdi lumps in everything.

As said, anything that keeps them on the road is good if you ask me. Good idea to keep the opinions to this thread rather than people's build threads as well. :)

  18. Lots of non original stuff in these buses, very few are original.

Like lowering it, changing the curtains, different front seats ....

My air cooled engine sounded so loud ... I won't miss that :p
