VAG V6 Engine Options

Discussion in 'Alternative engine in bus' started by illzlee, Oct 7, 2016.

  1. Now then you lovely bunch, I'm after some opinion on a choice of VAG V6 (or V5) lump.

I've bagged myself a Kennedy Adaptor plate with the VR6 pattern to Vw 'box.

There are myriad of donor cars out there, a lot of them for pin money but i've never owned a vehicle with any of the potential engine choices.

So, choices include the typical VR6 (of golf/corrado/sharan variety)
V5 (VR5 actually) from a Seat Toledo or Golf
or V6 in various sizes from an Audi A4 B5 (2.4/2.6/2.8)
and maybe if it is same bolt pattern 2.5 V6 TDI from A6/Passat

Open to advice/opinion/criticism from all corners as I've no experience of these lumps.

FYI my van is already running a diesel engine with underslung radiator and T25 gearbox so this engine change would just be because I can.

  4. T 25 box... nosecone swap or standard?

  5. The box is a side-shift with t25 linkage and porridge stirrer

    ^Compared to a Type 1 or 4 air-cooled?

Another vote for the 2.5 V6 TDI

  8. Although I love the noise of a VR6, especially a supercharged one (have you seen how cheap the kits are!) it's a TDi vote from me too, suit the vans needs better than the rest.
