Hi all, Well then I have finally installed my epas columnn and..its not working To b honest Im really bad at electrics and think that's the problem..I even bought an other ecu just in case so replaced it and..it does nothing!..Im quite sure tho that Im doing something wrong with connection although at first sight everything's looking correct..Got a question then to some of you guys who fitted it to your vans..how to check the whole thing?..how to check ecu where/when should be power when ignition on? Cheers Arek
It came off corsa c..I've done conversion myself and try take few pics tomorrow if it helps but basicaly all the electric conection stayed same as factory (corsa) I only added controller which is fused at 3 amps and connected to 12v through the light switch (black/yellow wire if remembr)..the black wire is obviously earthed..
Won't u need a signal for the speed sensor and such??? I've used an MGF unit as they are a bit smaller and I've got a control from a rally car company which manages the signals into the ecu
I've got one of those control box's with manual control knob..it should give the signal to the ecu and I've only managed to check if theres a power feed on the red (3amps) wire..and it seems to be so no more ideas what/where/how to check?
.here's few pics not sure if they suggest something I should eventually look at but wondering if all correct?..
The control knob just looks like an off the shelf pot, was this a kit? I know the controller I've got for mine consist of a pot and some capacitors/risistors and other electrical witch craft in order to make it think it's still in an MGF. All the connections need to be soldered as any impedance will affect the unit. Tbh once I connected mine up it fired straight up but as I say I've used an MGF unit and I'm not sure what the corsa unit will require tbh.
Thanks for response..well the earth you can see in first pic (brown 6mm wire)..it's basicaly done as same as litesteer unit is earted I think(ecu earth on the column)..I know about soldering but bear in mind it's only a trial fit The knob and the controler unit come as a kit off ebay (theres lot of them on there)..PS I nearly gave up
When I first tried mine I choccy blocked the connections and it wouldn't work so it needs good connections. Also be worth checking that earth is earthed as it looks like it's bolted to a painted surface, needs to be a clean surface. I would test continuity from the top of that bolt to another earth. Appart from that I'm all out dude
You really need to get a test meter with ohms range and check that the "earth" on the steering column is actually connected properly to the structure of the vehicle. If I remember correctly the steering column is several screws and maybe slightly corroded bits of metal away from the bodywork.
Litesteer take the ‘ignition on’ signal from the black/yellow on the headlight switch but the main power feed is from a dedicated cable from the battery with a 50 amp fuse. You’re putting a high load on that black/yellow wire.
Tbf ive put a 15amp fuse before the power steering and the correct fuse is still on that circuit so not worried about that. Worse case it pulls the fuse and I'll put a dedicated supply in.
..cheers guys!..I am gonna take the battery out and connect it straight to it..think I ve got test meter somewhere so can try and testthe earth connrction..if all ok then my llast thought is faulty controller..I've alreadymessaged the seller aabout The issues so hope they respond to it.. Thanks anyway..will keep you updated!
..ok do checked everything again..no joy..the controller sends some impulses..thing is tho there should be a click after switching on the ignition in the ecu..there isnt any..hart to believe both my ecu modules are faulty..if there was any way to check that module andcross it off the list?..hmm..nevertheless it looks like its either controller or ecu faulty..
..yep..they are..but after a little battle this morning Im almost sure the ecu's fine..was suggested it could be the movement sensor faulty..also I will get that controller replaced so as soon as I get it will start the battle again Cheers!
..just a quick update..I have managed to get the pas working today The problem was a bad earth..thanks for your sugestions guys Now long way to get it setting up properly.. Cheers Arek
