Stolen, our T5...

  1. Glad to hear your insurance firm are going to pay out fella & deffo go view whats left & see what they want to buy it back even if you strip the usable parts for another & scrap the shell as it may save you a few quid in the long run! Especially if the pop top is intact!

John, so sorry to hear this and not to have seen it at the time.

I know i've taken the p i s s and encouraged you to keep your bay, but this is terrible news.

When you put your bay back up for sale let me know and I will do my best to promote it for you.

    All the best

    Paul

Hi mate, seriously though, no offence taken. One of those things. That T5 was, well to us anyway, a thing of subtle beauty.....it was, compared to the bay, big, comfy, and drive beautifully. Still, we'll have at least one last hurrah in the bay. Selling it on with a nice rebuilt RP engine should help too

Not yet mate. We hope to get another modern camper of small mobile home in the not too distant future. Have enjoyed having the bays, will enjoy getting this one up to scratch while the engine is rebuilt, just tidy it up a bit. But our future is with a modern vehicle. Have you found your T5 yet?

  7. Project tinkering on air cooled with the daily / family / weekend camper vehicle being a T5 is my goal in the long run

We are narrowing down our options on a T5 at the mo ideally something ready to go but were after a similar setup to what we had with our bay as it worked well for us we like plenty of room inside but hopefully soon

@Robo if you want more room from a T5 you'll be best with a lwb, there is in effect less inside space to laze about in as you lose the space above the rear engine and it's "wasted" by being at the front, storage under the bed is bigger but you can't sit there.... Bed down in a swb T5 doesn't give much room to the front seats, without rotating seat/seats up front you'd struggle.

  9. It's the width I'm referring to more Rick, as a family car for day trips & the like we need to carry 3 in the back

    What about a T4?

Full width bed and a row of thin units is possible

  12. I had considered this but wanted as lower mileage as poss & we also prefer the look of the T5

T4 is more I'm still trying to be cool but not as cool as a bay kinda thing & that's not why we're buying, some may say get a transit as they're cheaper! Seen em & don't like em, so it's going to be a T5 or bust

  16. No offence meant but its going to be a big purchase for us & I wanted to get a low mileage T5 so that we can put the 15000 miles on it rather than buying one that someone else has already done that to if it makes sense, its going to be a long term thing!

I get the feeling I'm making it worse

Here's how I see it , When I sold my bay I had £20k to spend , I had just got back from Cornwall and had seen some mint T4's, It was the first time I'd ever really took notice of them. I started looking at both T4's and T5's coz I really like them as well, I wanted a fully converted van with poptop roof but quickly discovered that My £20K would only get me if fully converted a high mileage mid noughties not so great T5, The one's we really liked were £25/£35K  It's mental money for something we'll camp in about 4 /5 times a year, I nearly bought a £22k T5 with 120k on it but then also realised I was gonna blow all my dosh, Reality hit and after a few weeks I found My T4, And it's a good T4 coz not all are, I love it, The old chap who had it kept it in storage and used it rarely, It had 85 k mileage on it and is the 2.5 tdi, It cost me a fair bit but I can use it has my daily and Iv'e still got dosh in the bank, Win. Win

I agree woods, pretty similar but cos I needed a daily I had to find low miles - couldn't find t4 and all t5 were either high miles or high price if already converted so I went blank van and do it as and when, I think I did ok? Would love a pretty one but i couldn't afford it and didn't want finance, mine probably owes me 20 grand as it sits.

  19. Don't get me wrong I love em all but like Rick I wanted low mileage & a certain layout! We loved your T4 @Woodster it's what convinced us to go for it but we need three seats in the rear inc belts so a standard conversion was out the question!

I also looked at T5's but the ones I like were a bit too costly for me. I like the 2.5 TDI engine tho. We've had two T4's and they went back and forth from Spain without any probs. my new one has 115, 000 miles which is fairly low in my mind. Plus I've got 3 other cars to choose from if it all goes Pete tong! :)
