That middle bearing that left a rusty line round the crank was stuck and rods 1 and 3 stiff... Had tea now getting wipes our to have a look at case..
One thing you will need to do to clean up the case is to drill and tap all the oil galleries for a clean out as corroded case alloy turns into hard white flakes and the water may have gone some way inside. And do not forget that oil relief valves also go crusty and jam up .. When an M10 tap and a strong magnet securely fixed to a stick may be your friends...
Drill an tap oil galleries. Cans open.. worms everywhere..... I was only cleaning the engine a bit when I started.. Now my garage is looking like an oily Somme version of Machine Mart..
It's been off went back on for balancing crank... while I span the case around to the stuck con rod .to get the piston out of the case... to get the pin out .. To get the piston off.. To split the case ... To find out I now need to spend hours googling drilling and tapping oil galleries... ...And type 4 flywheels come off easy peasy...
Any crib sheets for a type 4 out there.. Looks like a selection of npt threaded taps and plugs.. shopping list anyone who's done it?
Avon Tap and Die will do you some NPT taps, but it'll be a pricey business. BSPT might be cheaper, if you can find the plugs. http://www.avontapdie.co.uk/taps/npt-tap-sets http://www.avontapdie.co.uk/taps/tap-sets-bspt
There are some sneaky ones flywheel end Just read the whole thread that will be an interesting rebuild.
Just done this to a type 1 got all needed from ebay, I must say that even only just cranking it over before starting the rocker covers soon started filling up with oil and that was on a 26mm pump
Can I just vernier across like this or does this need bolting together and a bore guage... I'll do top middle bottom of each bore... but they're all a knats under 70...and I thought that 70 was my starting point
