With a heavy heart I believe it to be the end of the line for me and my bay... Given my stupid lifestyle choices/choosing a crap place to live, there is no way I can finish my bay while living here, no way I can move down south with it, with it not drivable, and its just sitting getting worse... So it very much looks like I'm swapping it for a T25 and actually having a VW van I can drive around/camp in as opposed to an extraordinarily expensive garden ornament that steals all my money and then breaks some more.. I can feel the disappointment in your gazes already but I have to be practical, I've been stupid and let the heart rule for too long, which if I'm honest is the only reason its still here. (At least I dont want a Bongo!) So just wanted to say a huge thanks for all the help I have received here, from all involved. I'm sure I will stick my head in from time to time as there is quite a few of your build threads I am watching with great interest. You guys build some awesome stuff!
Gotta do what's right for you dude. Don't beat yourself up too much over it. Hey, you're gonna have a T25 and be able to enjoy it, that's good news to me Do yourself a favour, enjoy life, too many of us put it on hold for an old VW Bus, some don't finish it and never go camping/shows/meets. T25 fetch good money now so maybe one day, sell it and buy a Bay........scrap that, buy a T5 hahaa No goodbyes here, just see you later's
Good plan... I had a nice bay 5 years ago, but I knew it would need a lot of upkeep so swapped it (more or less) for a reliable no work T25 ,but you have to get the right T25 or you will be working just as hard....
Avoid the 2.5 T5 . I had 1 for 6 months on a 54 plate. 1st problem within a week of purchase at 120k, dual mass flywheel, then intermittant starting issues in all temps back to garage to have new fuel filter, full fuel system check, in to main dealer who had no idea what it was they said it could be 1 of many sensors ( not glowplugs as was pig to start in all temps -8 up to +20 ), new connections on fuel lines, then found head is a common issue cracks between oil way and fuel way on cylinder 3!! then the gearbox started knocking!! all in 3k miles!!! Best thing was seeing it go up the road when i sold it!!! Since selling several people have said they are nothing but trouble! i read this in 2011 , put me off for life...
Be positive and enjoy the T25. My son has one and they are nice vans. sign up to the club8090 forum for T25's .
I get call after call after call from T25 owner looking for someone to work on their vans. When I say "sorry, no I don't do 'em apart from the engine's in the air cooled ones." They say "Nor does anyone else ". There's an opening there for someone. Not me though I hate the bulky gert things. If I were thinking of getting a bigger (outside) van, T25's would be at the bottom of the list!
T25 are easy, apart from the water cooled engines that go from good to scrap with one blown gasket , I fix um but hardy ever get asked, maybe I should advertise
You cannot be against all progress.... I am not a fan either, but used to work on them all the time ,they have better ground clearance so welding is more of a joy and been less rusty and old getting to good metal is a welcomed refreshing change.... My t25 is a stop gap .... pipe and slipper included ,but good for tech....
You're still welcome on here and at camps with a T25, you won't be the first, saw this the other day and was tempted to enquire!
I'm getting more and more enquiries, and I've done probably 5 or 6 in the last year or so and like them. They've got more seams and straight pressings in the panels which makes fitting new bits easy, they're more simply constructed and they don't have badly designed bits like double skinned wheel arches. Their downfall is that spray seam sealer stuff they coated the underneath with which cracks and lets water in.
