Mine is a working night. I work for a nationwide carpet delivery company as a HGV driver. My truck is a 54ft wagon and drag demount vehicle with a gross weight of 38 ton. We have depots all over the country and each night we truck down to one of the depots with a full box to swap over with two other single box vehicles. I can go in to work anytime from 5pm until 9pm so long as the lorry is back for the day driver to use the next morning. Typically I go in about 7pm. Go into the deserted office grab my keys and notes and go check over my vehicle and trailer. I hook up to the boxes and go out of the yard about 7,30.. The motorways are usually quieter by then and I can generally get to the other depot in about 3 to 4 hours. At the depot I immmediately do a change over ( each depot has its own quirks, poor ligting, tight yard, uneven ground, miserable security guard etc, but I have been doing it long enough to know them all now. After a break I am back at our yard about 3am, I wash down the truck and head off home. It can have it's excitement, life on the road, but generally that is my working night. Not very exciting eh? What's yours like?
on a good day full of internet loafing on a bad day full of swearing/arguing/getting dirty and generally being fed up.
I work in car sales for a main dealer. my day is made up of drinking coffee, eating biccies, taking the p1ss out of colleagues, arguing with the service dept about prep costs, wasting my time with people who arent serious about actually buying a car, doing too much admin work (not my job boss), and sneaking on TLB.....
I only see miserable security guards and other truck drivers when I get to the depots. The rest of the night is a blur. They all seem to roll into one after a while.
I wake up usually between 7:30 and 8am. Then get up before 8:30. I make a cup of tea and empty the dishwasher, then sit and check my emails, Late Bay forum, and the online Daily Mirror. When the wife gets up I make her a cup of tea. After a while we have breakfast, usually toast and marmalade, and another cup of tea. I will then get showered and dressed, and am usually pottering by 10 - 10:30. I then stop for a coffee break between 11 and 11:30. Some days I will sit and read. Lunch is around 1pm, or we may go to IKEA for a cinnamon bun and free refillable coffee. Total for two of us with the family card is £1. Some days we may do a bit of shopping. At 3:30pm I collect my grandson from school. He usually stays behind on the school field to play with his mates. So sometimes we don't get back to his until 4:30pm. We may then play on the Wii, usually Skylanders, but to be honest, I haven't got a clue what's going on. I just do as I'm told. Follow me grandad, shoot him grandad, stop shooting me grandad. That sort of thing. Sometimes we will have a little kick about in the back garden. When my daughter gets home from work, I leave and go back to ours. We have our main meal around 6pm, then after that it's time to relax. The evening is spent either reading, watching telly, watching a film, or playing games on my iPad. At 10:30 pm, after the news, I put the dishwasher on, and go to bed
contracted hours are 8-5.30 with half hour lunch, however 'cos i'm here alone a lot and get in early and don't usually go off for lunch we have a gentlemens agreement i do 7.40 -5.00
Im mainly staring at a screen, designing electrodes nowadays. With the odd bit of milling to break things up.
