8 Gigs worth to be exact!

Since finally giving up on all radio stations recently, I have just been putting my Ipod on shuffle and letting it do its thing.... all good for a while but I am now sick to death of my current pods worth!

So, I entrust next weeks sanity at work to the good folk of TLB.. Recomend your fave tunes / bands and I will fill the ipod with the first 8 gigs worth in the name of musical education.

Anything goes, with the obvious exception of lame pop, and country and western...

    Over to you folks.. :)

A band from St Austell called 'BackBeat SoundSystem' are definitely worth a listen. I usually like my dub / reggae / ska a bit older, but these guys are really good. Also a kiwi band 'The Black Seeds', for the same reasons. Love music and would recommend loads of other stuff, but hey there's your starter for 2 :)

  7. Having just been to see Thunder, Terrorvision and King King in concert, they are currently stuck in my mind. Bit of everything rock.

    Thunder. Tuneful rock.

    King King Blues rock.

Terrorvision. Wake you up on a Sunday morning rock. (Do you want to go faster? - obviously VW bay owners!)

  8. It's got to be Ernest Ranglin 'Below the Bassline' .....awesome sounds from the master!

If you have all you can eat data on your phone, try an internet radio station, some have zero waffling and generally if you find a show you like the 100 previous shows are on a cloud somewhere.
Dub Chronicles, DJ Disorda on Kane FM is my fav - you would have to like Dub Reggae for that one but 2 hour shows durng which he lists the tracks after every 10 or so, advertises the odd cheap event in Brixton etc but generally keeps quiet.

I will entertain any genre, and indeed gender! Today's shopping experience was greatly enhanced by a soundtrack of Django rheinhert ( or however it's spelt.)

  18. Even no radio 6? That's the best source of new music and obscurities I've heard.

Otherwise on my turntable (yep, good old solid physicality of vinyl)...

I'm revisiting talking heads at the minute a lot, the earlier albums are stunning, 'remain in light' especially. Hypnotic beats and rhythm.

Gil Scott heron 'pieces of a man'

Rolling Stones 'beggars banquet'' 'let it bleed' and 'sticky fingers'. Best three albums, the current release of SF with the out takes and alternates in excellent. I've also got a relic of a mono 12" 45rpm from their very early days, I for get the name, but it was about 50p from a car boot, mouldy as heck, but it is incredible.

    Tubeway Army 'replicas redux'

Doors LA Woman, hadn't played that in years but on a whim bought a white vinyl release and now remembering how good it is.

    Velvet Underground, that's always good.

    Bare Naked Ladies 'Gordon'.

B52 'the B52's', bought on a whim, only ever heard the singles as like most people, but listen to it as its laid out and with a mind that it's a fresh album by a band starting out and it is stunning.

  20. Not a specific recommendation as you may not share my musical taste, but if you use Spotify (and you should) check out a playlist called Discover Weekly. It picks a load of tunes based on your previous listening and what people with similar taste are playing and it's bloody amazing. I've discovered more great music since I discovered it than I'd discovered in years... very clever - it rarely picks anything I don't like and has picked loads of stuff that I love and would never have heard otherwise. Spans loads of different genres but it's all been good.
