Yet more woes - strange noise and an intermittant oil light :-(

Thank gawd. Someone of sound mind.

In the past year I've replaced 2 switches on 2 buses. These little things are not bullet proof. And pennies the change. This is why I keep a couple in stock.

When Barry threw a spanner in the works he also did this. Turned out to be the switch.

As for the noise when turning, it isn't engine related so it'll be a cheap and easy fix.

Glad I could help you :) When we changed all of Majors brakes over, we had the exact same noise & I was thinking what I'd broke :) Glad your getting the niggles sorted

Similar 1641 with S/S exhaust but a progressive carb:
My oil light flickered on with 15W/40 oil at 115 degrees C after an 'exciting' motorway run -
I stopped this by making sure the tickover only went down to 850 rpm indicated on a digital gauge - it tended to go a bit lower when hot - down to 750 rpm.
Fixed by turning the ultra-sensitive end-stop screw about 10 degrees in on the progressive. And going back to 20W50 oil.

When the flicker happens, the cure seems to be to increase the revs, improving the cooling and increasing the pressure at the same time.

  4. I'll give that a try but I am going to replace the sender too just to be on the safe side

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I wouldn't change to 20-50 oil, it's too thick for new bearings/ pump.
Start and finish with the sender (and tell him you're doing it) and if that doesn't cure it take it back to the builder.
The sender has a tapered thread, so don't wind it right in.
