Just choose your prefered area ( the front I'm guessing ) . give it a little feel , maybe tap it a few times just to syke you up . Plunge your power tool gently into the desired area . start with a smaller drill bit and work your way up to the desired girth . when you've done the hole (or holes) rub some grease around the rim of the hole with your index finger . then insert your telescopic shaft appropriatly for the desired affect
Drill it, wack copious amounts of clear waxoyl on the lot and the hole - use one of those extendible magnets things to pick up the swarf from the bottom of the panel. This is (or was) the VSIB approved method for hole drilling, and the same for CAT 1 and CAT 5 installation courses I sat over the years, and ther various Manufacturers approved method (for steel panels). Measure twice, drill once - use masking tape and the sharpest drill bit you can find - for larger holes, use a pilot, then a cone cutter to stop the application of too much pressure. If you drill the hole and have no bare metal, the reception will be poor as you need a clean earth - which is why many aerials rust as you need clean metal, Waxoyl over it and ensure the rubber grommets fit and are watertight.
we bought a shiny new aerial, still havn't had the bottle to drill. We have it fully extended across the dash next to the windscreen, works great
Drill it, be very careful & check & double check, mark, check, check again & check again, look inside to make sure your not drilling anything, then when happy, go for it. Touch in the hole with pain & leave to dry., paint the outside & inside with waxoyl or even better Ankor Wax, then fit the aerial & wipe of the excess.
