Hi My pop top exterior i.e. the fibreglass is fairly marked, blackspot and mossy. I've been advised that using a mild bleach solution will bring it back to white a treat and not hurt or affect the fibreglass or paint. What would you advise? Any other methods to achive a whiter 'top? No Daz suggestions please (unless it actually works of course!)
i used very fine wet and dry on mine suppose it took a fine layer off but worked well for me so f.d.h.
Old fashioned celulose rubbing compound or T-Cut at a push. Find a Yacht chandlery on line, they'll have decent stuff for the job and no VW scene tax. Y-10 and Starbrite are the brand names we used to use.
My concern with bleach is that it would run down onto the paintwork etc. unless, of course, your taking the top off rather than doing it in situ.
Iv got some heavy degreaser stuff matey seemed to work on mine matey I got loads try in when u pop over tomoz dude !! Cleans allsorts matey I use it on the whole bus !!
I've always used Cillit Bang on the pop top, and it works very well. Just spray it all over, wait a couple of minutes then sponge and hose the entire van down to remove all traces
I used neat floor cleaner on my old pop top. I just made sure I didn't let any run down onto the paintwork. Small bits at a time and rinsed loads with garden hose after.
I used dettol anti mould bleach spray last year, worked a treat, but it could do with a new top coat as the dirt looks ground in again this year,
Can I suggest CIF easy lift, it's in a spray bottle and although I've never used it on a pop top, last week when the great british bake off was on, I got bored and cleaned the oven with it to see what would happen and it was brill and its green too.
I used Tesco value cream cleaner....cheap version of 'Jiff' (back in my day) now called 'Ciff'! Finished off with a blast over with some T-Cut and then some wax polish. Wish my Westy roof would be so easy....that'll need repainting to revive that!
whatever you use ( i ended up with some wet and dry on mine), I would re-wax it afterwards so that it keeps dirt at bay longer....
