Woody my 72/73 bay window resto project .......an epic tale of rust.......

  1. to be fair neither do I!

I chopped the original filter bracket off early on, thinking I wouldn't need it, it was only when I started overhauling the engine and reading posts on here that I realised the original filters are probably best!

The breather pipe that was on there was a bit of old hose so at least this is an improvement ...of sorts

It is the one thing that really lets down the engine bay.

I'm not going to weld the bracket back on now its all painted, so I'm open to other suggestions regarding the breather pipe

    ......maybe twin carbs :D

  2. A man of your caliber could modify the chopped off bracket, a couple of strategically placed rivnuts in the engine bay and bobs your uncle, fannys your aunt n all that!

Then you can put the poop air filter on ebay telling of how it will add 10bhp :D

  3. actually that's a pretty good idea

.....and one I hadn't even thought of  tuesday_wildchild

might have to wait a little while as I want to get the interior finished, but I'm liking that idea

  4. It's a nice little job for when it's all done and you need to quench the urge to tinker.

  7. thanks guys :)

I've got my MG to restore after the van is finished, so I've got plenty to keep me busy!

  8. Ha! That's what you think, haven't you got another baby on the way?:D

Still, I suppose it will be nice to finish it in time for the new arrivals first driving lesson!

A 90 degree outlet in the bottom of the filter would go a long way to sorting out the kink... At least it'll help it do the job as intended!

But the filter will still be carp – I hope you haven’t fitted the same to your MG.

  11. nope, still got standard air filters on the twin SU's on the MG .....but I have been thinking of going down the V8 or possibly K series engine route ...if I ever get round to it!

  12. Looking top draw mate, love the upholstery too.

    A little K series in a MGB? Nahh, maybe a Midget. You can’t beat a V8.

  15. yes of course  ......keep up at the back, it not for camping in its for trailering to shows :p;)

:D go on then twist my arm ....V8 it will be :D ....just need to replace all the metal first or the V8 will rip its way out like something from aliens!!

  16. I put some K&N filters inside the air cleaners of my MGB. You can get ones that fit perfectly. With electronic ignition too and slightly richer needles it goes really well. And I like the sound of the B series...

  17. I must admit, I do like the B series engine, and SU carbs. If I stick with the engine I will probably polish and port the heads and stick some 1 3/4 SU's on ....before it broke down it was my daily transport, and was fairly nippy. It used to sit at 80mph all the way home with a bit to spare!!

  18. Ooh you're getting me all gooey. Might have to get mine out again this week for a spin... It needs some serious TLC but I do love it.

  19. bet mine needs more TLC than yours, the last 2 years it was on the road I had duct tape all over the bottom of the doors and over a huge hole in one of the front wings :D

I do keep getting nostalgic about it and really want to make a start on the resto .....but I've got to finish the VW first!

When/if you get the bus finished come down here and I’ll give you a ride in my MGB, but be warned you won’t to keep the B series engine, it will potter along at 30mph in 5th and go on to 'fast' with quite a lot to spare. V8 torque rules.
