Yes, you heard it from Yoda first, we will be expecting our third Diddy clan member next year, not sure how we will all fit in the bus TBH ....but we will give it a go, after all the work we've put into it I'm not selling!

...oh yea, and I have been doing a few bits to it lately, if I get a chance I'll get some pics up in the next few days

  5. cheers guys :)

gawd knows how we are going to fit 5 of us in there  ......but I'm determined to make it work out of shear pig headedness!!

its typical that the van is nearly finished and I'm not sure if camping in it will be too practical while it is a baby for the next couple of years, but others have managed it.......just not looking forward to the lack of sleep, money and time .....again

my youngest is 9 in a few weeks time ....and I'm nearly 40!!My Mrs is now actively looking for a couple of house bricks to make sure it doesn't happen again :(:oops:

We're quite late 30s too... We're in blissful ignorance of impending poomagedon + sleeplessness!

  7. Youngest is 9 in a few weeks time........you have forgotten how hard it is then!

Our youngest was 4 when the second arrived and it was a shock to the system even though we'd done it all before.

I sensibly tied the second money / time / life sapping child in with a full t2 restoration tuesday_wildchild

I am now a shadow of my former self :D

The youngest is now one and the bay is tip top ready for paint shop so it's getting easier, I fear however that my hairline and bank balance will never recover o_O

    Congrats by the way

  12. Mate I've said it before but I'll say it again, this is a cracking bus! Your floor and panels look amazing!
What are you (or your mrs) doing for the front seats? I have a set of templates kicking about if you need to borrow them to make covers.

  13. thanks every one :)

The 2 boys don't need car seats any more, so one will have to sit in the middle with the lap belt (good job we went full width!)

bugg3r didn't think about that! ...well, was thinking about a cab hammock anyway but the seats....

I have got a set of MGF seats which we were going to upholster and fit, but @Pickles has now made me realise we probably wont be able to fit the cab hammock ....doh!!, might have to re-cover the originals ....but I suppose I could remove the head rests from the MGF seats when we need the cab bunk fitted. I do want head rests in the front as they feel a bit safer

Hmmm.... Where does the cab bunk fit in relation to the seats? Lazy Nicki will be very unhappy if we have to remove the tombstones to fit cab bunk!!

we'll start with a couple of pics from Beach Buggin the weekend before last

you can see I've at least got the front badge on!

a box of new bits :) ...my new fireboy extinguisher, fuel cut off solenoid and ethanol proof fit and forget fuel hose ......fingers crossed it might be fitted the weekend, well, the extinguisher at least

  16. front bar between the A pillars above the dash, rear bar/pole on the B posts level with the front one

I'm pretty sure they are only just above the top of the dash level which is why I think the head rests will get in the way.

I'm hoping to get (or make) some in the style of the original Devon ones which spring into the existing holes (yours might already have the holes)

If that fails I have an old set with brackets, they look pretty agricultural so I probably wont use them, but might use them to make something which will fit just in front of the head rests if that is possible

  17. I've got the foam for the rear seats and over engine bay, ordered from Jordan's foam, cut to my templates and delivered for under £90!!

We've had a patchwork quilt thrown over them so the kids can sit in the back a bit more comfortably ...and looks a little nicer than blue foam!

....but this weekend Mrs D finally made a start on covering them :chewie:

not taken as many pics as I should have done but....

    and one seat half finished

the other half looks the same, but has a back stitched to it as it will be seen at the rear. Not got any pics, but I did finish fitting them last night any they look looooverrrrly :chewie:

    seams match up nicely

Only issue is, the back rest is now about 1/4 inch higher than the seat when folded into the bed  ....think that is because the rear has a backing, plus extra scrim foam, so I might have to remove the seat base cover and pad it out with another layer of foam ....a pain, but it should be done if I want a comfy bed

and tonight she has made a start on the engine bay cushion

we are out of piping cord, so it might not get finished until the weekend (hopefully)

also started thinking about sound systems, cupboards and hob/sink combo's

  18. oh, and I've fitted some brackets to the inside of the poptop to make a big full width bed in the roof as I'm not fitting the original Devon hammocks back

  19. We have Saab 95 seats with tall head rests and have managed to fit a cab hammock for the little-un. As you say, the front bar sits above the dash on the A pillars, but I couldn't fit the back bar to the B pillars as the head rests get in the way, so I fitted the brackets to the door frame instead and reduced the width of the canvas by around 4 inches, meaning I can recline the seats fully then fit the hammock easily. Of course, it means we can't open the front doors when the hammock's in place, but on the plus side, neither can little-un, and no-one can break in from the outside either!

ps... good luck with the new addition... if all else fails, I recommend some Vaseline and a shoe-horn (as an aid to fitting 5 people in a bus, not as a form as contraception!)!

Been giving this some thought as I drove the van to work this morning!! Like any good expectant dad, it is my job to worry about how a child would limit my fun!

Do you have bulkheads? I don't think I could recline my tombstones to allow enough clearance to the door.

The notional conclusion I came to on the way to work was a tube fitted in the corner of the b pillar / bulkhead, into which another swan neck type tube could fit with the brackets on for the bunk, offsetting them just in front of the seat.

Might have to distract my fabricator from his other projects!
