in the process of putting a floor in Kevin the camper and was wondering what the best way to do it? if there is a best way,
think it had carpet underlay and wood style vinyl before.
have cut out some 2mm ply to put down 1st and was wondering if there should be anything underneath it?
someone gave me some very thin polystyrene which has a layer of foil on it but couldn't remember what is normally used for so, so far I have been unable to buy any more. Was thinking of when I get some more, to put that on top of the ply and then either carpet or laminate on top of it.
firstly, should I screw or glue the ply down?
    cheers

Try B n Q foil backed underlay for wood floors,

    Silver Needs points/will pay!

2mm ply? Sound a bit flimsy.

most people don't secure the underboard in any way, some do, but I don't think the converters did.

    I thought this too.

  8. was going to put either carpet or laminate on top. do you think that is still too flimsy?

  9. looks like laminate floor underlay....

What's the best way to put a wooden floor in a bay? Good question...
By wood, I assume you mean a laminate, as opposed to timber.
Laminate is pretty good provided it's good quality....bathroom grade will be better than budget stuff...
to make a base for laminate you could either use a dense, but compressible phenolic foam insulation board which takes on the shape of the corrugations in the floor, or a dense closed cell foam with thin (6-9mm) ply board on top, laminate above this...
Some of the original westie floors are simply plyboard directly on top of the corrugations, with lino/marmoleum/carpet overlain...

I bolted my floor down, others don't bother.....both are equally functional

the advantage of laminate over other flooring materials is that it's relatively cheap and easy to keep clean.....buy twice as much as you need and make a complete spare floor if necessary....

3mm is about the thinnest ply you'll get hold of readily....it won't provide much in the way of support
