  1. Right again I am at this electronic ignition,,I have fitted it ,checked I have a spark at the coil lead to the dizzy buy turning the dizzy and earthing the lead on the body ,I have a good blue spark ,I also get a good spark at the plug when the engine turns over ,I have set the dizzy pointing at number 1 lead on the dizzy Tec,and put the rest at 4,3,2 ,now when i try to start it it's popping but will not fire ,what am I doing wrong ? ,bus started no probs on old dizzy (points)

Did you swap the dizzy itself or just the points for an electronic ignition?

  4. Check your engine is at TDC on the firing stroke, then see where the rotor arm points. Then fit the leads. Sometimes it's possible to fit the distributor 180 degrees out.

I thought the dizzy drive was offset to stop you putting them 180deg out?
If you swap from a 009 to a SVDA they are 90deg out though.

Was the one you took out a 009?
If it was then you're probably now 90degrees out. Make sure you're at TBC then look where the ht leads go to. You can move the leads around one position if you are.

  8. Yes I think so it was the original,So don't put it at Tdc,turning it another 180 and then swap the leads ,find this a bit confusing lol

  9. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

When you set your rotor to what you think is number 1, can you see the timing mark on the pulley?

  10. Remove o/s rocker cover , turn engine with a spanner to TDC mark on pulley , check to see if both rockers are loose on number 1 (front) cylinder - if not , move pulley another 180 degrees until they are ... That`s number one on firing stroke .
Trace the HT lead back to dizzy and plug into the cap where the rotor is pointing to ...
(i went from 009 to svda and it was 90 deg out .... )

    Re-time as normal -

  11. Sound ,get back at it later once I get the monsters fed ,bathed and put to bed ,I will let use know how I get on

  12. Nope no luck done everything above what peeps have said but with no joy ,I have spark but just not when I need it ,

When I put it to Tdc ,Mark on crank pulley lining up,the rotor is pointing to no 1 ,(pointing to the osr corner ) rocker cover off ,valves shut ,rockers slack ,then put leads on 1432, clockwise, this is what I have have done can anyone see something I am doing wrong

  13. take number one plug out ,turn the crank, with your finger in the hole until you think the piston is at the top...

if needed do it with every plug until you are 100 per cent every lead is correct ..

Can you get someone to crank it over while you rotate the dissy till it starts then time it properly with a strobe, try both directions from where you think it should be!

  20. I think he has got his finger stuck...:D
