  1. hi I took my bus out for a spin about a month ago no surprises started first time run lovely as it is always so reliable, went out this evening to take my bus in for a replacement front beam, and it would not start!! Fired up briefly but run real rough, carried on cranking it over and finally started but stank of petrol, loads of petrol been dumped out of exhaust, managed to get going again but would not run I managed to get about 200 yards up road cut out and would not start gave up and got towed home!
Bit of background information engine Is a twin port stock carb been rebult new pistons, barrels and cylinder heads, bit confused why it was chucking petrol from exhaust?

    Any ideas?

It sounds as if it may have slowly filled the engine with petrol via your rebuilt carb, inlet manifold, into the clyinders and past the rings into the case. Check you oil level, I bet it's gone up.
What was left in the cylinders caused it trouble turning over as it doesn't compress, then shot out the exhaust valves into the exhaust.

I look at the dipstick still smell bloody petrol so carbs probly needs a rebuild then?

  5. Checked dipstick oil level slightly up stank of petrol tho, so I take it that crankcase is full of petrol? I read some where that this may be the pump ? Letting petrol into sump?

Pump or carb I think. Happens with both, often something stuck in the float valve.
Not what you want in the oil obviously, you need to replace that. Hopefully no damage done.

  7. Might be electrical ,attempts to start petrol flooding everything...

First thing check the oil and replace ,then discover what caused it ...

  8. Towed the bus into my local vw man for unbove problem and fit a new creative adjustable beam, that's where I was taking it for a new beam when it broke down/non starter
