Hi all had the bus out for a run
She ran fantastic but once she got nice n warm she would cut out at lights and junctions so i had to apply throttle to keep the revs up.
This i the first proper run shes had since driving back from techenders 130 miles.
She runs fine on choke and motorways etc. She just stalls as soon as revs drop.
    1600 Type 1 electronic ignition.

  3. What's the rpm when it's trying to idle?

  6. Make sure the choke is coming off, then set the idle speed by ear.

Check the power is connected to the idle shutoff solenoid, so it clicks when you turn the ignition on.

Hi all managed to have a go at the bus today
Fuel shutoff is working ok clicks when pull wire off.
    Checked valve gaps all ok
Changed spark plugs and ht leads
Removed carburettor found a fair bit of muck in float bowl including flakes of orange paint.
Cleaned everything with carb cleaner removed jets blew everything thro with compressor.
Started her up ticking over on choke as choke goes down the steps gets to 3rd step then cuts out.
Restarts easily but as soon as come off accelerator she dies. [IMG][IMG]

  9. Does it still sound slow at idle?

Hard to tell because its on choke
But now she dies before the choke shuts off.

Does a 1600 engine have the idle solenoid thingy on the carb...? My 2L ran great on choke, but cut out as soon as choke was off when the idle thingy stopped working.

I would undo the big air bypass screw on the carburettor to see if you can get it to idle.

Then clean out the carburettor again as you will likely also have the same rust and junk in the fuel pipes that you disturbed when you took the carburettor off to clean it.
It can be iterative. Even after fitting new fuel pipes I still managed to block the idle jet with tiny crumbs of new rubber from where I pushed hoses over the fittings in the fuel system.

  16. increase the idle speed? The screw adjustment gives a huge range of potential idle RPM. Mine was stopping at junctions and roundabouts when I got it so set it so high i nearly didn't need to use the accelerator pedal at all! Calmed it down now though.

  20. I presume you’ve cleaned the idle jet ?
