Won't idle - help

  1. a week has gone by and I have the same problem again! back into 81a and apparently the carb is full of crap again! obviously there is a load of crap in the bottom of the fuel tank by the sound. He has cleaned it AGAIN and fitted a new filter. What would people suggest or do I just keep doing this until all the gunk in the tank is out. I currently have no idea how much fuel i have at any time as I am awaiting a fuel sender unit which I'm told aren't back in stock until end of august. anyone got any suggestions or ideas?

  2. Get a cleanable fuel filter if yours is in line and check and clean regularly until the crap has been flushed through.

Alternative is to drain the tank, but be careful if playing with large quantities of fuel.

  3. thanks alpha

  4. well I picked Bodhi up today. John stripped and recleaned the carb AGAIN, he drained the fuel tank, apparently there were a lot of fine particles in there (he doesn't know what they were), he has added (in addition to the standard in-line filter) a Ford Ka large fuel filter. This has an even finer filter and is much larger so should prove very effective should there be any gunk left in there. Seems great again. I often have to check at junctions the engine is still running.
