Wonky window seals and trim.

  1. Hi, has anyone fitted window seals from VW Heritage? I bought the fancy kit with the plastic chrome trim about a year ago.

I thought the rubber felt well made in my hands, like oem stuff, only started the install yesterday, fitted one of the side windows, but it's all wonky. The seal looks fine on the inside, but sinks into one side more than the other and the trim is all bumpy and crooked even though it is all the way inside the rubber.

I was just wondering if I got crap seals or may have done something wrong. I installed lots of windshields, never had this problem.

Not sure if you can tell in the photo how the trim isn't straight, but runs like a jelly noodle along the seal

I don't think the rubber is supposed to sink into the channel like that either.

  2. Did you fit the trim into the rubber first? looks like trim is not sitting in properly.

I tried to fit trim after glass but had to break window to get it back out and fit trim first.. glass was cheaper than rubber and it wasn't for shifting once in!

It was a real b*** of a job, ours has a couple of small wiggles where i forced the trim a bit too much getting it in but mostly went ok (Schofield delux trim but looks the same).

  3. Rubber on glass, trim in rubber, all on bus, in that order. I fitted all the glass now, some I redid 3 times, some look slightly less awful, some of it looks like a cartoon drawing. I think the seals are total crap to be honest because the front windshield seal w. trim from paruzzi looks perfect. And I bought the kit from heritage thinking they sell better quality parts. Disappointed.

Basically the rubber is too loose on the glass, and you insert the trim into the loose rubber like that, when it is compressed in the window channel, the trim either pops out or warps.

Are you using the special tool to fit the trim

  5. No, i am using my fingers but i can tell when it's in correctly. I took out some of the windows again, managed to install them slightly better. Now I don't have any trim coming out, it's just not very straight. Will use a hair dryer and some convincing tomorrow, hopefully it will straghten out. The seals are definitely not something I would call a good fit though, regardless of trim

  6. We tried the "special tool"... gone the same way as EMPI gear at Snotty's house!
Fingers were best.. I think ours were Vewib.. Schofields best ones he had.. not cheap (cheapest best quality we found) but seem to fit quite well

  7. Deefer, you broke the glass to get it out? I was just thinking a month ago how I should make a video on how to remove windows without breaking the glass and keeping the seal intact. You just need 3 flathead screwdrivers and work the lip from the inside out.

Anyway, your trim looks straight and tidy in that photo.

  8. After cracking the windscreen while carefully removing it to adjust it..and fighting for a couple of hours to get the side one out, my fists were getting sore....it really didnt want to move..I gave up and hit it!..

I’ve removed and refitted hundreds, some are harder than others, just need more patience with those ones :), 3 screwdrivers is a good way
