Wobbly Washers

Hello

Are the wobbly washers doing the same job as a split washer? Just keeping a bit of tension under the nut?

Im putting my steering back together and wanted to replace them with some nice stainless bolts and new split washers.
Not sure you are supposed to reuse old ones anyway

Yes. Split spring washers do the same job. Use nylocks on the coupler bolts.

 

Thanks snotty, i ordered a pack of lock nuts and bolts and already had the split washers, i thought they where same

I do believe a split washer has raised ends designed to bite into both the nut or bolt AND the flat washer but I may be wrong....... I have been wrong many times before!

 

yar , the wobbly wavey ones are better suited to less pressure and if something is more delicate or you dont want the face scratched .

It is my understanding that any lock washer is designed for a certain application-for instance you wouldn't use a star washer with a stainless bolt & flat washer when applying torque settings it simply doesnt have the strength. I think the wobblies or spring washers adds tension to the set up making the threads act as the lock

 

And the waves hold more flavour. Unlike a flat one. The flavour just falls off those.
And don't get me started on nuts......it's no way near Christmas yet.

 

This is true....if you take a good look at a lock/split washer it is lightly knurled, (the years I wasted as an apprentice electrical/electronic engineer) this is to catch the molecules of intense flavour only found in salt & vigenar (we say vigenar in our house) or as my youngest would say salt & big enough!
