joking aside i'm dreading the T5 in the snow, it was all over the shop on wet grass - front wheel drive - bet i get stuck.
Yep crap on wet soft grass/mud but I've not been stuck in snow yet. I'm gonna get some snow chains, no it doesn't snow here but one day we will hit the alps or pyrenees .
the best thing about it is the option of tyres, being 16 inch there are some good semi off road tyres available like for landies.
Never changed tyres for seasonal weather but I think they might make sense if we go winter mountain driving lots.
The merc LWB spinner when deliverin drugs and that was crap in snow, I had to dig myself out a few times often due to an idiot in front going to slow uphill.
i just been looking on e bay, are they really a benefit? i'd hate to stuff the t5 through a poor grip... can you just fit them on the front?
I know it's a different motor Rick, but I thought the same of me old T4, but in the white stuff it was like a snowmobile. Did have a heavy bed over the back axle mind.
Been in the Alps with winter tyres on the front only , made a tremendous difference. If you can stretch to putting them on the rear I would
fit 4 or don't bother. seriously, the last thing you want is a big mis-match of grip front to rear - there are youtube vid's of cars with just winters on the front - absolute death traps! i have two sets of wheels and tyres for my daily driver - i run winters dec/jan/feb. they grip better in the cold and wet than my summers, and on snow and slush it feels like you're driving with velcro instead of rubber overall cost isn't any more as my summer tyres are sat in the shed for the months i'm running the winters. over the life of the car its the same number of tyres i'll get through.. yes i had to buy a set of rims initially to get the winters fitted up but when the car goes i'll sell the rims and get my money back so cost neutral. if you only do local trips or you live on the south coast or you can get away with staying at home when the weather's bad then don't bother, but if you do a significant mileage every year esp if you're going on a skiing trip etc then winter tyres are a no brainer.
I had to abandon the t25 at the bottom of the road ,it was stuffed with a bit of snow ,rear wheel drive as well... I remember my old mk3 escort fwd that was ace in the yorkshire snow... @rickyrooo1 should have bought zeds bus and a td5....
I've got me winters on the Scarecrow already. I've a set of wheels n winter boots lined up for the Porker too, since I spotted Continental Conti Sport have a graphic of a big sunny sun on them.
