  1. PM me your address and I'll send you one. I can't bear to see you suffer ;)

Don't go looking at the Mouser catalogue. You can spend an awful lot of money on there...

In case anyone else encounters this, I found out from a mate on the buggy forum that the grey wires are for US spec park lights - how I ended up with that bodge in a South African bus is beyond me. So I've chopped the 2 grey wires out and covered the bared bits of wire that left with heatshrink. Also chopped the third soldered joint out.

  3. Ah. You may have missed a trick there (just to ruin your day ;)). If you fit a new ignition switch - well worth doing - they do have a mystery contact on that I believe drives the park-with-one-set-of-sidelights-on function. Quite handy, maybe.

That'd end in tears and a flat battery for sure! Happy keeping it simple.

You do have a lights on alarm, don’t you?

Thank you for the switch @snotty - got it fitted now.
I wanted to use the original mounting screws and threaded sleeves, so I made a little plate the same shape as the original fitting and used m4 washers as spacers. With the switch mounted to the plate I only had to make the hole in the plastic a tiny bit bigger for the switch and it was easy to adjust the switch for full operation.

  10. Now you need to order:
    - new Febi ignition switch (with exciting new contacts)
    - one Lucas  washer pump
    - one delay wipe relay (VW 321 955 531A - "19")
