the paint on the front 3rd of the van will polish up - mine was that flat when i got it, g3 and plenty of elbow grease.

  12. Thanks rickyroo and paradox and all the others for your comments on the colour debate. The wife has been swayed by some pics of renovated poos, and rickyroo's pics has just sealed the deal - poo it is! We've debated the pros and cons of only re spraying the rear and polishing the rest but there's quite a bit of stone chipping at the front and a few areas of flaking so we're going to just do the lot.

The roof is the next debate; it has to be painted, but should we go with a matt or gloss finish?....
At least the bumpers are causing no such consternation as they are undamaged and the chrome is coming up a treat with a bit of autosol and a surprisingly small amount of effort. If only the rest was that easy

excellent choice on staying brown L86Z Agate/Achat Brown for the win, mine is covered in stone chips and scratches too, it's character though, no way i'm respraying until it needs a resto, i just touch up the worst bits and it looks good from ten foot.

  19. I could blame the wife but actually I'm a perfectionist at heart and I once it's stripped out it I don't see the point of not going the whole hog. If the whole bus was OK with a few chips I'd just go to town with the polisher and I'm sure it'd look pretty good but trying to match in 35 year old pretty faded paintwork with a new section ain't going to happen so in for a penny...

  20. Haven't done resto thread before but used to restore buses professionally before the wife and my bank balance made me wise up!
