Windscreen Washer Motor

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Tilly, Feb 22, 2012.

  1. While fiddling around with Tilly last night, as you do, I wanted to check the windscreen washer motor not working.
Removed the kick plate and plug, and found Voltage to the plug, took motor off, stripped cleaned lovely little pump rebuilt and works a treat. Then noticed that water feed from washer bottle goes to another pump not wired in, and a tapping from the outlet of this pump feeds the what is now the new washer pump.
Removed this strange pump and boy is it big, put in vice plonked a voltage across it and it could pump North sea oil, if we have any left that is.
Can someone explain this motor, is it the original? when I say big, it is big, will take a piccy later if i can. Can I use it as the main washer motor, it will certainly give some water to the screen.
    All suggestioons welcome.

  2. they were not factory fit, but it sounds like you could have one of the uber rare "große Scheibenwaschanlage Pumpe für Brunnen nicht Windschutzscheiben"
    :)

  3. "large windshield washer pump for wells not windscreens"

I had to google that. Lol

  4. Wow a rare find indeed, my partner ist Deutsch und ich sprechen gutes Deutsch

  5. I don't though. Lol

how big are the outlets on it? it could be a headlamp washer pump

  7. Will get a piccy loaded up they are about 10mm

  8. it sounds like its a optional headlamp washer pump motor then, if it is a original factory mcode install then the washer bottle is much bigger to cope with the aditional water requirement. do you have holes in the front panel under the headlamps this is where the pipes came through to feed the jets on the overridders

  9. No, no holes under headlights or anywhere near, I will get a piccy uploaded asap, great pump though

As promised a little late but here is the pump, you can see the size of the inlets and outlets and also the small take off, I can agree that is was probably a windscreen and headlight washer pump.
The pump is fitted in the system it would appear to purely act as a reducer for the large inlet hose to be reduced using the pump yo supply the washer pump fitted immediately after this large pump.

  11. Thats a large pump indeed

  12. Impressive. As I recall (may be wrong) the headlamp washer option may have had a seperate pump for the lights and one for the washers, together with a mega-sized tank to hold the fluid.

Maybe there was an electric washer pump option on its own...

  13. The washer tank is built into the RH kick panel, difficult to remeove when full, holds more than a gallon, or because it is a VW 4.54 litres.
Could survive a desert crossing by filling the washer tank.
