Ive just bought a T2 Transporter - empty apart from ply lining. I'd like to fit a rear bench seat and wondered if T25 bench seat would fit? I can knock up some brackets to utilise the T2 keyways in the floor channels, but Im not sure if they physically fit width ways?
is it a full width or 3/4? if its the latter surely you just make smaller side cabinet and you're sorted?
You have to be careful there, the bay seat mountings are not strong enough to hold a seat with integral seatbelts in a crash, you need to make proper mounts for the seat/ frame, back etc
Thanks for that. I had a bay kombi years ago with the original bench seats fitted, I'm sure the middle row (with the little reclining seat back next to the sliding door) was only fixed down using the floor keyways? I've found a pair of single seats that have come out of a crew bus, they each have a base similar to a T25 base, so I'm hoping they will be light weight enough.
The seat belts on a Bay window middle row would be about as effective as one of those sweaters with a diagonal stripe. If its light weight it probably is not strong enough to be worth having seatbelts.. http://inventorspot.com/articles/diagonally_striped_seat_belt_tshirts_make_chinese_policemen_cros These appeared in the UK when seatbelts were first introduced.
I'm picking them up today, I'm assured they came out of a company crew bus, so I'm hopeful, but they only cost £27 for the pair so if they are pants I'll throw them over the fence.
The seat is not the issue, it’s the fixing of the seatbelts, seat can hold down with a few bolts a seat with 3 people on can’t
I'm going down the single seat route - picked these up today. £27 for the pair seems like a bargain. I'm going to tell Mrs. P that's how they are going in. I'll let you all know what she says.
