Ay up Rob. Been niggling int back of me mind for ages and I was right, I didnt get back to you on this. Yep, well up for some caving if you are bud. Went to Gaping Gill last weekend, catch up with my Bradford Pothole Club buddies and drink some ale. As ever top weekend had, only did Flood Entrance via Sand Cavern and out the Main Shaft on the winch. The caving was easy, its the 50kg of gear and beer that took some dragging up.
Had nice bimbble last week through Rosyd to Croesor, slipped over in the very wet audit and hurt my arse and had to give Cwmorthin a miss.
I was due to do the winch thing at the weekend but couldn’t get my backside into gear to tackle the 300 mile drive and a bit nervous with the new engine only having a few hundred miles on it. At least your photos saved me the effort. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Always next year bud. Handy tip, go the weekend before the bank holiday. It's members weekend and all this means is that members of Bradford are afforded queue jumping rights over Joe Public, the winch is still open to said Joes. You may be delayed a bit, but the weekend is much quieter and a lot less queuing time. There's another winch meet held on August bank holiday weekend by the Craven Pothole Club, but to put it bluntly, its pants.
I didn’t know the public could join the back of the club queue the week before - thanks, good tip! What’s wrong with the August one? I’m no caver. Did it a couple of times in Mallorca in a nice dry (mostly) cave and the squeezes and crawls made me feel irrationally claustrophobic for the first time in my life. Went into an old sandstone mine system a year ago and that was worse as it was all crumbly and propped up in places after collapses. Gulp! Low ceilings aren’t good for my knees and back either. Been to Ingleborough cave many times - I’m fine with a nice spacious caves - and always meant to do the Gaping Gill winch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@Gingerbus Its just not run as well and the clubs hearts not in it. They've been trying to off-load it for a while now. On the other hand, Bradford are investing in a duplicate engine and gearbox back up in case of breakdowns.
Good stuff. Last time I went in via Bar Pot, saw the length of queue for the winch and then backtracked to Bar for a delightful prussic out. Interesting notes about CPC meet in Aug.
