White tape on inside of doors

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by nicko_1982, Dec 6, 2012.

  1. On the inside of the cab doors it looks like the previous owner has put a white tape around the door frame to make the door look cleaner/fresher/newer.

This tape must have been on a while and is now peeling off. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the door frames back to a good state?

I could take the tape off with hot water & fairy liquid but what are people recommending?

    1.White Paint
    2. FreshTape
Something else? (if something else is the answer please let me know what this is!)

  2. Paint I would think!

    Have you got a picture?

  3. I dont have any photos yet, i'll try and take some in the light tomorrow.

Do you think a standard white metal paint would be ok?
My concern is you will have the usual lines on the doors of the paint strokes......hmmmmm

  4. I think you could get some brush paint the same colour made up that would work.

  5. ive never heard of brush paint.....

    What's that then??

  6. Brush on not spray on paint

what colour is the paint behind the tape?

  8. on the doors there is no paint behind the tape - it appears to be purely the old cab door

  9. im not sure how you would actually get the tape off.. maybe if its gone hard a scraper?
but WD40 is quite good at removing the sticky residue left behind.

  10. What about petrol or lighter fuel ? If I need to get a label off of something, lighter fuel normally works because it helps to dissolve the adhesive. Be careful on plastics though.

  11. Acetone (nail varnish remover) is used by fibre glass workers and will move almost everything. It evaporates quickly and is less smelly than petrol.

All very strange. Not sure what you mean by frame, I did think you meant the door shuts on the van. These sometimes get painted the interior colour and look silly. But you mean a part of the door?

Post a picture and you'd get better advice...

  13. For paint, Get a spray can knocked up in the original colour and lots of masking tape and news/brown paper.

  14. To be honest I think photos would be ideal before taking advice, a picture paints a thousands words.
