  1. Having just bought my first bay and worried about the big chill ahead, where does everybody else keeps their vans?????

I have a garage far too small for the van and am super paranoid about keeping the van on the drive covered up!!!

Does anybody use indoor storage? what sort of money does it cost?

Does anybody know of anywhere in the midlands that specialise in it?????

    Cheers Guys :D

rickyrooo1 Hanging round like a bad smell

i'm sure we had a thread about this - maybe it was on the old site before the crash? i don't think you'll get a hard fast rule, some say cover them, some say let them breathe, i'm gonna store mine inside at work from nov to march as it isn't waxoiled or undersealed yet....i also want to get the glass out and do some of the stuff i should have done when i got it but ran out of cash.....i'm sure there are plenty of places in the midlands google caravan storage and i reckon youll see a few.

  3. I used to leave mine on the drive all the time through out winter as you can see from the picture on the left!!!! No real harm came of it but now that I am spending money on new paint it will be stored over winter. I have been quoted £8.50 + VAT per week but that is in Norfolk.

  4. Bit extreme, I know, but I built a garage especially for the van.

  5. ours is kept in a garage, we were lucky it's a big one with high door

  6. mine live on the street in all weathers. i have a cover for the bus but think that'd make it too tempting for you young scallywags.

the bay was *supposed* to be all finished by winter and then it would be kept on my parents drive under the breathable cover.

my bug has lived outside o the road for years and he does ok. he's due a bit of welding and respray but that's after 10 years with a spray job that cost £100! :D

  7. Outside in the elements i just keep bare steel painted over and all the drain holes clear
It gets a tarp over it when the snow comes

  8. Outside, and really refreshing to see her after years under a tarp getting her roadworthy 8)

  9. I've had free storage at my local paint sprayers for the last 8 months! In that time, they've done about 2 weeks work on it and have since kept putting me to the bottom of their 'jobs to finish' list. Maybe that's because the garage owner's a mate of mine. I'll tell ya - avoid getting your mates to work on your buses!

Last week I was told that the bus will definitely be ready by 30 September. She'll then be stored at a classic car centre (heated and dehumidified) with 24/7 access. It costs around £65 per month (including a trickle battery charge over the winter months) which I thought was pretty cheap.

  11. I keep mine in my garage in a separate block, however my Westy poptop was too high initially to get it in.After a brainwave from my brother in law,the up and over mechanism was removed, giving me an extra 6'' of clearance and put 2 side opening hinges on the door instead.
Had to cut out a bit of the main support in the roof too which isn't ideal but I think there's sufficient strengthening there anyway.
Looks all a bit ugly admittedly but it's a garage in a block and gets my van out of the elements and is now nice and secure.

  12. In a barn, £6 a week
    ;D

  13. I built a garage specifically for my bus! Extreme? yes, but justified as it has added value to the house.
I do have a dehumidifier on the go too, but still its not 100% guarenteed to stop corrosion (check out my door!)

  14. Mine sat in a drive with a cover all last winter. No real issues TBH.

Now has a garage though ... without any heating .. it's a vehicle at the end of the day ... not some ancient papyrus that will fall to bits if you don't wear gloves (sorry I know that will hurt a lot of folk!!)

If something starts to rust replace it ... simple.

    ;)

  15. I leave mine next to the house , like a car port area open to everything
Any bare metal or open areas get covered over and I'll be putting some silicone crystal things in there like they put in with shoes etc ( just a big tub of it to stop to much moisture

  16. Polly will be going into storage at a mates garage/workshop from November to March.

  17. Outside on the drive, uncovered. I leave a couple of ice cream tubs full of salt inside, which I change regularly in winter. Never had any damp of condensation.

  18. outside in the rain  not good really as i got rust bubbles everywhere on the old boy

  19.
  20. When i get Jack back, he will be my daily so, he will be kept unger bolt and padlock's on the back garden, till i get his shelter built side of house ;)
