Where do these bits go? Tinware

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Uncle Nick, May 19, 2019.

  1. Hi all, my brother-in-law (who has a garage) offered to rebuild my type 4 engine with new barrels and pistons.
I took him up on his very kind offer as it would save me time.

After only 2.5 years I got my van back and I'm slowly getting it ready for an MOT and finding out what is now missing or incorrectly fitted. (Like the electric fuel pump fitted on to the firewall, because he smashed the mechanical one, that meant the air filter couldn't go on. Little things like that.)

Anyway, today I've found the thermostat isn't fitted and don't know if the flaps are either. While looking for it in the box of spares I found some tinware and I don't know where it goes. I've just fitted the foam seal so all the tinware appears to be in place. Maybe they're swaps, who knows?

So where do these bits go please?

Got a clearer picture, upload full-size instead of as a link, the top on goes around the cylinder head, alternator side alternator end, I think

  3. Small piece may be an exhaust sheild probably bottom one of two?

  4. Thanks guys, I'll have a look.

The small part is a broken off bit from the tin that’s behind the pushrod tubes

  6. Thanks again. When I look closely the bottom one has been cut off not broken off!
