Wheels and tyres

  1. I am running this combo. Its been suggested it's not good. Suppose I'd like now to get the 205 size at the front too......its lowered and I am wondering would I come across any issues ...i bought the bus with this wheel/tyre configuration and it works well...but....145/65R15 72V front and 205/65R15 94V rear. Any ideas....thank you.

Too many variables to know without trying but at a glance I’d suspect there’s not going to be much clearance between the top of the fronts and the bodywork if you fit bigger tyres, they may bottom out.
Try swapping the rears and fronts to see.
If you can get the rears out!

    Here’s the size difference:

You may have to raise the ride height!

Also those fronts are way too low a load rating for van use, they’re light car tyres.
The sidewalls are going to be too soft and moving around a lot under cornering I’d think.

The rears are actually a good match for standard size tyres though:

It’s just whether they’ll fit without rubbing that I’d be very doubtful of at that ride height.

  3. Thanks very much, it's got me thinking....esp change the rears to the front to see if it works.. and yes the shock comes off to remove the tyre..Steve.

145/65R15 72V has a load rating of 355kg, weight on the front axle 1,010kg. That's one reason why it's not good.

  5. Likely the previous owner put the diddy tyre on the front cos anything bigger was rubbing.

Load rating is way too low though - do your own research- should be at least 85 I would have thought Ideally c (commercial) or xl

Fortunately these days now they are making electric bloat boxes that drag around a ton of batteries, they are making small lower profile high load tyres for these...

I regard my 185/65R15 92T load 630kg as a minimum on the back provided i dont load up too much and the 185/65R15 88T load 550kg on the front are just adequate. Both of these are Cooper CS2.

If the tyres rub, coilover front shocks to stiffen suspension for (harsher) same overall increase in force with displacement but with reduced spring travel and /or fit a narrowed beam.

Or drive like a demented slow squirrel darting round potholes and bumps at 20mph... look cool but feel a bit sad.

It was only when I took Scott from SGS out on a test run he realised how bad it was when I slowed down to 20mph for a bump in the road ...and then he recommended the coilovers..
