  3. The early columns, up to around 1973, had tapered splines to mount the wheel. The later ones are straight and make it much easier to remove the wheel, early ones usually need a puller.

Early has a wider fit. And the thin spoked steering wheel fits that column. The later wider spoked wheel fits the thinner post 74 column. Other than that the shroud and indicator fittings are different too. The early pre 71/72 crossover model had a different indicator set up to the post 71/2 model and the post 73 model year was different again.

    confused?

Well wait until you have to source a a 73 model year indicator, and then it becomes frustrating and confusing..

Didn't know that was his ... Was told the following in Italy in the late 70's as an example of a "scherzo surreale" ... surreal joke

qual è la differenza tra un'anatra?
una delle sue gambe è la stessa!

What is the difference between a duck?
One of its legs is both the same!

Maybe it got to Italy from Spike in the first place?

Had the pleasure of doing a Summer job around the same time, with Silé Milligan, his Daughter.
Mad as a box of frogs, but bloody good company as a result
