What's my engine worth?

  1. This is not a for sale thread.

I just want to get an idea of what my engine would be worth if I were to sell it.

    2.0l fuel injected

Full turn key 1979 engine with all tins ready to fit. Hydraulic lifters. VAC dizzy with pertronix. Heat exchangers through to the flaps. Ernst standard exhaust. Heat deflector. Cleaned injectors. Genuine plug leads.

Oil changed every year whilst I have owned it which is about every 1000 miles!!

So what would it be worth me putting it up for? Just want ideas so that I can sell the idea of an engine change to the wife.

I paid £850 for similar engines, twice one for each bus.

  12. It's a fact that Westy engines are rare and superior, must be worth a mint:D
I've just read your comments in the Modified section so I'm assuming it's diesel power your going for.

  14. I don't know but for a known engine I could drive in the bus, check compressions on and that came with all its component parts, tinware, heat exchangers that work and all the risers and connections then I can't see how anything less than £1500 would be appropriate. It's not a box of bits or a potentially viable motor it is good to go. If I were to drop mine as is then I would want around 2k or it can sit in the garage just in case. That said its only worth what someone is prepared to pay and people are invariably idiots who will part with good money for a pile of poop sat on a pallet yet argue the toss over something that's running. Think I let my t25 2 litre air cooled go for cheap money a few years ago, around £450 ish (can't recall) It was in the bus and running for punters to have a look at and I had people look at it and umm and ahh and go away to think about it. I didn't really care. Someone else came along and just put the cash on the table, no questions (and got a good engine).

  15. There's a fresh rebuilt CJ engine on ebay @ £1,800 right now.. the vw engine co exhange CJ is similar money. I'd guess yours is worth £1,000-£1,500 ish.
