What's good for getting rid of surface rust please ?

  1. I have nice white bumpers but close to the fixings is some surface rust. Is there anything I can do to try and remove this without damaging the paint ?

Apologies if it is a stupid question.

  2. There s a product called Vactan that halts and reverses the rusting process, it only has a short shelf life though so for a small area only buy a small amount, just google Vactan to find out about it.

  3. Metal ready rust remover from Farts, however recently discovered B&Q - No Nonsense Metal Cleaner Restorer , although they have discontinued it!! muppets probably not made enough money on it- but bob into your local B&Q and have a look on the selves I got 3 bottles reduced to £2 each! Bargain

Metal Ready is made by the guys who make POR15. Good stuff.

I thought your mate has a new product that "eliminates corrosion"?

Oh ok. Your post does say it eliminates it though!

I'd use Metal Ready then POR15 personally. Both available from www.frost.co.uk

Is it actual rust or just streaked stains?
If its rust its unlikely that it'll still be painted I'd have thought.
I'll go have a look at what it says on the bottle.

    Right, it says:

"As a metal prep on smooth or lightly rusted surfaces: Use Metal Ready to keep surface wet for 10 - 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Remove excess from painted or chromed surfaces as quickly as possible to avoid paint discolouration."

If its only streaks, and not actual rust. I'd say you dont need it, but should be able to clean it off.

  19. If its true surface rust the only way to remove it is abrasives anything else is merely slowing down the progress of corrosion or removing/hiding the tell tale signs
