Hi all, I am collecting my new camper on Saturday I wanted to know what advice you could give on what I need to do/check first. It is mot'd etc but I was thinking of checking things like brakes, steering etc. as I have not owned one before I want to make sure it is safe and sound, although I'm sure it will be. Advice would be appreciated.
Hi lord Congi, I am collecting Saturday and thinking more about when it's home. Do you think it's good practice to do an oil change and service. That way I will know and can keep a record of what I know has been done and when. Thanks
Check the oil before you drive it away! Obvious rust Hidden rust "Surface rust" Filler Pudding More rust
If you're competent, change oil and filters plus brake fluid. Peace of mind for little money. Get electronic ignition if it hasn't got one, soooooooo cheap these days. Check tyres and brakes. Above all else.... USE IT AND ENJOY IT.
Anyway you'll soon find out on the way home any issues , check your fuel lines as well before you drive and the fuel filter.
If the oil light comes on at speed pull over, if it flickers after a thrash on the motorway when your stationary just give it some revs.
Hi, It's about 70 mile drive home, so am sure I will feel if something is wrong. Oil will be checked, I will carry out a service when home. I will certainly be using and enjoying Lots
I wouldn't worry about doing any work at least not immediately as over the next 12 months you will have to replace everything Just enjoy it whilst it works and before you strip it down to a bare shell
don,t drive it home at the speed of A MODERN car or you probably will need a lift home on the back of the big yellow bus. take your time and enjoy your first drive... if you smell fuel on the way check out the forums on fuel lines its worth it and good advise to change them. get it serviced at a garage you can trust if you don't want to do it yourself (i did) but feel more comfortable doing things myself now with the help of TLB and all the guys here
By collecting I'm guessing you mean you've already bought it? In which case your question has come too late. My advice would have been to check it out before hand. Mechanical condition is pretty much secondary versus rust as it's replacing rotten panels which costs mega bucks. Hopefully for your sake it's not a rot box. Or a ringer Good luck, I'm sure all will be fine
