  2. You have a job and it pays well you say. Focus on that. Working for yourself would be far more stressful than your present job. Chill out and collect the money.

    Cheers all.

  4. I'd check what your redundancy terms are. If they're crap I'd start looking for another job, if they're good I'd see about being one of the first out.
In the meantime just park the idea of being conscientious and focus on the money you're getting.

  5. ^^^ This .
Speaking from experience, sometimes you've got to play them at their game . You'd be in a far better position applying for jobs when in employment but if redundo gets offered ...
Better to leave with a wedge if you've the choice

  6. I still think killing them is a better option.

  7. You only have to kill one of them. As long as the rest believes they're next, they'll be a lot more biddable. Of course knock the odd one off now and again to keep your eye in

  8. I could teach him all the skills I have learnt over the years - not sure what we’d do after morning tea break though.

  9. I was in the same position 8 years ago, knowing I could do a better job. I decided with a friend of mine who was in the same position to jack it in and start our own business. I was lucky in that all I needed to set up was a desk, computer and phone, but still had a scary few months with sleepless nights worried that none of my customers would come with me. However, people follow people, not businesses, and I have never looked back. Not sure if that is an option for you, but if it is I would gladly share my experience.

  10. Totally agree with wotsit. I’ve always tried to do my best for people and in the whole I think most people appreciate that and stick with you. Over the years I’ve picked up so many jobs from other businesses, not because I’m some super star engineer. Simply cos I try to do the basics right. If I say I will turn up then i will. I’m never greedy and take on work I can’t fulfill. I explain why people need to spend money if they do, ten minutes taking the time to involve a customer is worth its weight in gold. Almost without fail as long as someone knows you aren’t turning them over then you’ll never get an issue with payment. I take my shoes off, I put down dust sheets, I say please and thank you. I never tell them I’m a member of TLB. These basics really do mean that people follow people.

When I left school I couldn’t do my chosen career so I drifted into a job in the print. In my late 20s with a mortgage etc I wasn’t happy. So I went back to college. Did my three years city and guilds. Did a lot of helping out plumbers on a sat for free just to get experience. Then one day I got made redundant and had a bit of money to tie me over. So I made the change. Got a job with a firm not that local to me and once I was confident enough I went out on my own.

if you can do it. There’s nothing better than being your own boss. I can’t believe I used to have fixed hours. When I’m finished I go home. I can’t believe I had to ask if I wanted a certain day off. Never again. Plus I found the longer someone was a manager, the more they had no idea about actually doing the job they were meant to be managing. Way too frustrating for me.

Sometimes it depends on your financial restraints, some can Jack in a job and earn £20k less and it don’t matter, no mortgage etc. On the other hand....

Find another job, Jack in old job. Take redundancy if offered....

Ask for an advance course in excel may increase the chances of redundancy

    Enjoy life...
