What sound would a dry CV joint make ?

  1. Ok, got Lola on the road and done lots of miles, but recently I've been getting a dink...or donking sound when braking and decelerating...mainly when it's under load, it sounds like it's coming from the back passenger side, I have a CV boot that has split badly and spread the grease up the underneath, now I'm gonna sort this out on Monday and hopefully get some quality CV boots.

So would this sound be associated with a dry CV or is something more serious ?

  2. could be but check the engine and box mounts too

  3. ok dude, do you think the lump and box are shifting when it's under load then ?

  4. rickyrooo1

rickyrooo1 Hanging round like a bad smell

sounds like a worn mount to me, or possibly play in a c.v joint but i would check the mounts myself.

  5. Yes they make a cloncking noise, I found when cornering it was worse. :-[

  6. Deffo does it more when pulling out of corners..

  7. I'd put money on CV joint but check mounts etc as well.

  8. Looks like I'm gonna be busy on Monday...hope it's not gonna rain or it's wet feet again :)

    Cheers Dudes 8)

  9. with wheels on floor, grab driveshaft and pull it in and out and try twisting it. you are looking for excessive play
open engine hatch and put hand brake on as far as it will go, get someone to start it and gently let clutch out a bit a few times, look for excessive engine movement. do it again in reverse gear. this will tell you if the mounts are gone

  10. Nice one Aussie, just gotta avoid the missus getting me insured and driving over me while I examine said bits :)

ooops just read it properly :-[ check it from the engine bay..... gonna be nice to her on Monday ;D
