What holds pin in place inside gearbox nosecone ?

  1. As per title what holds the upright pin in place inside the nosecone ? It's the stainless pin that the cast selector slides up and down. Trying to upload pics but on phone.

  3. From memory...nothing.

  4. Well this one drops out ?

  5. Long time since I did mine, which stayed put, trapped by the nosecose? Is it the right way up?

  6. nosecone keeps it in

  7. Ok ta. It wouldn't select any gear and thought that was it. Removed nosecone and it wasn't in place. Popped it back together loosely and it selects . Puzzled

  8. May help, but can't really see much.

  9. was that in the van or on its own? sometimes bracket holding the pin breaks. Mainshaft looks worn, you will have hammered nosecone too.

  10. Was in the van. Removed as it wouldn't go in gear

It is held in place by the case of the gearbox.
Check the little donut in the end of the part that moves up and down that slots over the end of the hockey stick. Originally the balls fitted were plastic. And are a cause of even more slop if the hole in the donut is a lot bigger than the end of the hockey stick.
The donut should come out if it is rotated through 90 degrees then it fits through a gap in the flanges in the spherical cavity in the casting.
On mine the casting was so chewed by the hockey stick I had to deburr it with a file to get the donut out..

  12. The ball has been replaced and is metal, its back together and going back in !!

  13. Sure it's metal ;)? I could only find nylon ones. It's a wonder the whole thing works at.

  14. Think so, I might take another look, tomorrow. Sprinter has a water leak, that is currently my number 1 priority !!

  15. German rubbish !

  16. I am 90% certain its the auxiliary water pump. Its done 195k now and engine wise ive only put an alternator and starter on it and serviced it. It still returns average 32mpg. Not bad for an auto. I keep thinking about replacing but a mate has one with nearly 400k on

On mine it was suspiciously grey/metallic looking hard plastic .

For a while I think Bugpak did metal balls but they seem NLA.

Probably because thats just EMPI these days.
