    morning all!
The disadvantage of buying a project van with bits missing has reared its head again!
I’m trying to get the kitchen sorted i.e. the gas, water etc.

So the conundrum in my head is as follows!

I have a Westy Berlin deluxe with the sink and hob (but not the fridge!). The water tap was missing but I’m sure was the 3 way type which I don’t really need so a normal type should suffice, just need to find one! I’m planning on fitting a removable water container in the spare wheel cupboard for ease of filling and cleaning. I wasn’t too keen on the original 1978 tank. It was a bit minging! I’ve already bought a whale submersible pump to suit.

The gas situation has been keeping me up at night! So there is just a union below the hob! Nothing else so need to find out the size of that. I was guessing a piece of orange hose 8mm? Then 2 907 campingaz bottles (already have these) in the cupboard below with the correct regulator and a hole in the floor for gas to escape in the event of a leak. We are also planning to carry a party grill or cadac so was hoping to use the 907 gas bottle and hopefully a quick release sort of hose thing to make things easier. I was thinking an in-line hose connector would be ideal.

SO! My question to you all is basically what have you done?! Your answers will help me sleep at night and reduce my consumption of whiskey!!

I was thinking of that but wanted to be able to turn the gas off easily after each use of the hob (I’m a worry box!) any chance of a pic? Did you drill a hole in the floor?

I’ve got an under slung tank that feeds the manifold in the larger cupboard, that then splits off to our propex heater, and hob, a local company that made hydraulic hoses made the connection for the hob. I can isolate any system and at the tank.
I’ve also put a quick release bbq point underneath van

@Westiesam i like the idea of the bbq point under the van. Propex install is awesome. Thanks

No hole drilled in floor. It was like this when I bought it.
I turn off the gas before moving on. Apart from that never had any problems.

Here at home though I live in a town with no mains gas so cookers have 10ltr gas bottles under them which we change once every 5-6 weeks.
What's important is changing the rubber gas pipe every 5 years as they have an expiry date.

  8. Personally I think hoses should be kept to a minimum, I think the way it’s done in the pics above is how I’d be most comfortable, ie as much of the install in rigid properly clipped copper as possible, with each appliance having it’s own isolation tap. Only the final connections in flexible hoses and to be honest I’d pipe to the hob in copper as well. The only gas hose I’d want would be the tank/bottle connector

  9. I have the same Berlin. Originally it had a rather large water container but it took up too much space so I now have a smaller 10 litre jerry can. Even that doesn't get much use - depends on whether you do much wild camping, and I never drink the stuff. That's in a separate bottle or I fill a kettle from a tap on the camp site.

    Hello
We took out our water tank as we never ever used it or the tap. It was designed before bottled water was so readily available I think. Had kids so needed clothes space. We have the under slung lpg tank which has been fantastic. And the spare wheel well is full of tools, spares and hookup stuff.

Thanks Andy, yeah I’m planning a similar setup. The Jerry can could also be moved outside when we have the Coleman awning set up where I’m sure we’ll do most of the cooking etc. Only really going to use the inside kitchen for days out and on route...

Yeah sounds good but I’m not sure those tanks are easy to find! We have kids too so will be looking for as much storage as poss! I’ve been lucky to get my hands on a ‘78 Westy trailer which should do the bulky stuff.
