Weber 38 onto a 1600tp?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by MWAP5194, May 6, 2019.

  1. Whilst lamenting with mate about what to do with my late bay (previous thread- “overheated over Easter) - he said he may have a 38 Weber. Would this be compatible with a 1600tp? I’m thinking of upping engine to 1641 as barrels/pistons coming out anyway if that makes a difference to compatibility.
Whilst we haven’t discussed £££ yet I’m guessing it’s going to be much cheaper than buying from usual places plus I know him over buying used from a stranger.
What I should actually do is stop lamenting and get on with sorting!!

Quick update- it’s actually a 28/36 so I assume it will be ok?

  2. If it’s a single, dual-choke Weber, I’d avoid it. A lot of expense for endless hassle. Stick with your stock Solex, or proper twins. Don’t expect any more power if you go to 1641.

It can be made to work, it takes proper installation which is not just slapping it on an EMPI manifold with an EMPI filter on top..

The 28/36 would need different jetting but would be OK providing it has an electric choke not a water heated choke.
its yet another Ford Cortina generation carburettor. Might actually be more knackered than the 34PICT-3 you already have.

If you want an easy life, dont bother.
