Water tank non return valve .

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by David spry, May 8, 2019.

  1. I’ve fitted a water tank underneath my bus . Wired up the pump today but no water to the tap . I disconnected it and sucked up the pipe and turned the pump on and got a mouthful of pumped water . It’s an in line pump fitted directly below the tap . I was reading something saying that I need a non return valve . Does anyone know where I fit it . Thanks for any help

  2. As near to the tap as possible and after the pump

  3. After the pump ?

  4. Water has a nasty habit of wanting to run to the lowest point. Therefore if you have an underslung tank I’d imagine the inline pump is above this tank. Because the pump is an impeller, it can’t turn/shift air, only water. So once it’s not sucking then the water will drain out of it back to the tank meaning the next time you turn the tap on then the pump is empty. Essentially airlocked. The idea of the non return valve is to trap water in the pump when it’s off, so I’d say it needs to go on the tank side of the pump.

  8. On quick note on water non return valves, there are two basic types, one has a spring closed disc so can be fitted in any orientation. Cheaper ones are essentially a hinged flap, which closes under gravity so have to be fitted vertically, if fitted horizontally they won’t work.

  11. I'll give it a moderate 7, with the aforementioned sprinkling of glitter and perhaps... I don't know a sketch of a panda eating ice cream on a DFS sofa in the background, I'd up my score to a solid 9.5.
