(Was) one key van... Lock fix?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by PabloDiablo, Apr 1, 2013.

  1. Spent a chilly but fun weekend camping near Bude. As usual on every trip something broke or dropped off though - :) - this time the driver's side lock. It can be locked or unlocked using the lock pull on the inside but from the outside the key just turns in the barrel - further than it should - and will neither lock nor unlock, which is a pain. JK have a pair of replacement chrome handles so guess that's an option but having had the luxury of a one key van would rather fix the lock or replace the barrel if that's possible. I wondered if anyone had experienced similar problems and what the fix might be please...? Thanks peeps.

  2. That happened to our bus drivers door lock and basically it is nothing to do with the door handle per se. The lock barrel has a square end which the little lock lever goes over and is secured by a screw. The screw will have come loose so the barrel just turns rather than moving the lever. Its a fairly simple fix but you do need to take the handle off to do it.

  4. On the the samba link you will see in the second photo down that the screwdriver in the top right is pointing at a small bit next to a screw. Thats the bit I am talking about.
