have you actually got a pedal? when did you last have operating clutch etc? is there a leak, more info required.

  9. Bummer, As Ricky says more info, Does the pedal feel different? does it go into gear with the engine off?

  13. Bless you all for your help - be it virtually, practically or huggably

Blooming bus - spent 5 minutes trying to get a gear, nada, panic levels rising all the time. Called Paley out - same problem. Rang Paradox, got answerphone. Rang Magical Trevor who - it turns out - is even magical at the other end of the phone while plastered. One blast of his dulcet tones and the stick magically found all the gears.

Went down to petrol station and filled up. Gear shrieking in reverse and screaming while struggling to engage - but then the next 3 times slipped in quicker than a fat boy in a pasty shop.

I think the bus is just scared at having me on my own for a 240 mile trip :-[

  14. 'twas ever thus

  15. If you have a full clutch pedal and if you can go through the gears yet only intermittantly. Sounds like something is loose in the gearshift train from the stick to the box. Could be the linkage at the rear or possibly the coupling between the front shift rod that connects between your gear lever and the main shift rod.

The rear linkage isnt difficult from memory but tightening up the pinch bolt between the front rod and the main one should be even easier if its that. I have had similar symptoms when this has been loose and there just hasnt been enough travel on the selector linkage rod to put the thing in gear ie the movement of the gearshift lever isnt translated to movement at the box end and it wont go in.

The grub screw can jam against the rod and temporarily return the ability to get it into gear but if it is this it would get worse. Dont get a false sendse of securit as stuff doesnt fix itself

All the above is assuming your clutch operation is ok and if its grinding and wont quite go into gear (particularly 1 and reverse then it could be clutch cable which can take a while but dont get better. Sometimes you can get into get into gear and others not. Been there and done that too and if you have a cable its a quick job

Phew - more info and will try to help but unfortunately Im a bit too far down the country to help!!

  16.

  17. :( sorry but the worst nightmare is to break down on the day. I genuinely hope you are lucky but got to be worth having a look underneath with someone operating the lever and seeing if owts loose.

  19. keep the gearshift to a minimum then and assuming the clutch bites and operates as it should and its just the selection thats the issue then. I bet you that if you can persuade your grease monkey to get it on the ramp early doors then it should be easy to spot. Gearboxes dont go that often and cable operated clutches dont give that much trouble. Im sure it will be something simple. Positive waves coming your way. Best of luck, let us know how you get on and lets have a picture of the happy couple (or at least the bride or groom whichever your taking!!!! (in the bus of course).

Sliding door fell off my bus the day before my wedding grrrrrrrrr!
Me and the bus the day the door fell off!
