Vw T3v Caravelle, 1.9wbx engine Freshly painted 2 months ago. Replaced: Brake calipers, soft brake lines, nearside rear arch full panel, nearside rear quarter, lower panel sliding door, lower front panel, lower cab door skins, lower tailgate area, nearside B post, both cab steps repaired completely solid cills and underneath replaced twin empi exhaust with original vw exhaust which is still rust free. (the only way to go in my opinion) New battery, new starter motor, new HT leads, new dizzy, fresh oil, new fuel lines throughout. Has working foglights. Al lights work. Replaced rear cylinder nearside. As said, new brake calipers and pads on front with new soft lines on front and a new copper line to rear.Brakes could do with a final bleed as we didnt get round to that. but they do work, although spongy until bled. caravelle interior fitted in great condition with rear belts. front caravelle matching captain seats with both armrests on each. Weller black alloy/steels all tyres are legal. The engine starts now, does run freely, but needs tinkering to get it staring on point, since i overhauled the carb, it needs setting up properly. I just have no more time for it. No MOT Will come with a rain cover too. As you can see, over 97.5% complete, just needs that final bit of expertise that i lack. If it was a camper instead of a 7 seater it would have sold at that price. I only paid £1600 for mine as the bloke couldn't sell it without a camper interior.
true @Zebedee but i think people are missing tha point that the bodywork is immaculate and will want for nothing for years and years. These camper conversions all have seam rot, coll rot, front panel and arch rot. This one has no rot. that is what people are misunderstanding.
Its a buyers market thats the problem. Theres dozens of vans available and people seem more eager to buy a cheap van with seam rot than an expensive one without. If they want a camper then they'll still have to spend 2-3k ontop of the price of yours to convert it. The market for caravelles just isn't there i think. Ours will probably get a homemade interior thrown in it when we come to sell it.
your right mate. But chucking an interior in it, will only raise the price and also cost the same. Break even.
I think it might be the engine which you can't get running properly putting some people off. I sent a link to a couple of friends and they both said that.
@Motspur Hotspur it depends what sort you are after. this is for sale at the moment for £150 on brickyard forum. Or you could go somewhere like vanwurks and it will cost you more like £2500. poptop is a whole other ball game, could be about £2k again. I would go for a cheap interior to start and use the change to have the engine looked at. The van is solid, and everything you do will be an investment if you are to keep it. For me, it just ends up as a breaking even game as im not keeping it.
