Proper tyres or snow chains help. A few years ago I stopped to help a women stuck in snow in a landcruiser. Her tyres had less tread than Bazza's head I had a Rover 75 with winter tyres on and had to leave her with a guy pulling her out in a land rover.
true you need the right tyres ..even with a 4x4.. I think 4 tyres for his BM.. will be as much as a vw 4motion
VW's and Audi's suffer centre propshaft bearing failure. Our tiguan should have been eyewateringly expensive to replace at well over £1200 as VW don't sell the bearing just a complete propshaft. But google was my friend and I got a place in Bedford to press a new one on. Oh and it was on less than 80k when it went. I don't know if it's even relevant to vans but better warned.
update he bought a four motion in blue with 80k miles on a 12 plate ,one owner , fsh £10k, drives loverly happy days
