Viton

  1. What is it about Viton that it gets recommended for push rod tube seals. Does it matter what grade you get and what colour the rings are.

Half my seals on one side of the engine (2 litre t4), are leaking after less tha a year, so I’m thinking of going direct to an industrial supplier this time.

  2. Type 1 need to be the soft white ones, Type 4, case end isn't an issue but head end need to be the green ones.

Thats my un expert view anyway :)

  3. Viton's just a good quality synthetic rubber compound. What stuff should be made of, rather than Chinese floor-sweepings...

  5. They are a funny size , I couldn’t find them from a non VW supplier.. Viton are resistant to oil and fuel ...green are usually air-con

  15. Can’t find out where I saw it, but the measurements I’ve got are 21.82 x 3.53 and 24.99 x 3.53 mm. Polymax sell them here:
    https://www.polymax.co.uk/o-rings/rubber-viton-oring/

Can anybody confirm the sizes needed. Also the grade. Polymax sell various colours in several grades. Green seem to be the most expensive, but I’m unsure if they are any better than plain black ones.

If these are any good you could buy the minimum quantity of 16 rings each size in brown or black for about £13 posted.

This would keep Prince Albert occupied for a while

Heritage or JK, used to have the measurements on them

  17. Don't they come in Large, Extra Large or Big Boy? What do you normally order?

  19. I'm reviving this thread after a year. There's something I'm not doing right. Two years ago I redid my push rod seals when I had the engine out. A year ago I had to redo the left hand side, but it's still not right. This time I'm replacing three of the tubes as well as the seals. Cleaning out the orifices is important I know. Is there anything else to watch out for?

Then you can get onto discussing what this forum is best at.
