Thanks for the comments people, and time for an update!, My thumb is mended and now up to strength enough to be useful and I've been back on the van halfheartedly for the last couple of glorious sunny weekends :(

Its a 72 so its allowed!

I just prefer the earlier front, just underestimated how much work/hassle it was to change it over.

'The other site' would never welcome a bastardised bus! :D so I'll stick to what I know here.

  5. another nice lot of progress, for my front bumper mounts I was going down the same route .........I was going to use RIVNUTS/NUTSERTS but decided to use studs in the end.

I drilled and tapped my chassis legs first so I could make sure they were in the right place by fixing the bumper on, taking it of, putting it back on etc......... (still got to weld them on though)

your bus is looking good, keep up the good work :)

  6. Great work. I like your seats. With regards to setting fire to things welding, managed to set fire to my work bench the other day!

    Keep up the excellent work.

Small but much needed progress as ever this weekend, struggling with motivation at the moment but am trying to push on whilst the weather is still good.

Got the front panel and steps finally finished in filler, and after much tweaking and fettling I'm happy with the door gaps.

Left it for now just needing primer, which will get done this week.

Also after seeing the recent threads and recommendations I've decided to go for the epoxy mastic primer which I'm going to use around all the window frames, door edges, panel seams and other high risk areas.

Does'nt look much different in the photos below, but I've feel like I've made a giant leap forward and crossed another job off the never ending list!

No recent injuries to report :D but I've been pushing on as time allows hopefully before the weather starts to bite, heres some of the edited highlights of what I've been doing....

Front panel all primed again, and drivers cab door all repaired, primed and prepped inside with some of the hallowed and respected (epoxymastic) equivalent - Jotmastic87, also I've found one of the most time consuming jobs has got to be removing the old rubber door seals and glue, even using thinners and degreaser it must of taken me a good afternoon.

Being a fussy !@*#er, and having never been happy with the lower sliding door repair I had done, as having put a 4" lower panel in previously the join I made finished on the strengthener behind and was causing a ridge in the skin across its width as at this point using a joggled join was making it double skinned on top of the strengthener if that makes sense, so a 450mm lower skin from Autocraft was collected and I got the grinder out again ::) and also gave me an excuse to coat the inside of the frame and panel with jotamastic87, can see why Diddy slaps it on everywhere as its really good stuff.

Finished this evening quite happy with the sliding door, just with the filler to finish.

Feel like things are coming together on it now and I should be prepping/snagging for paint soon,

    Bits left to do bodywise,
Passenger cab door, roof prep, fit a battery tray (when it arrives) and prep/prime engine bay :D

Just a bit of progress, albeit very time consuming, more filler and primer! and now only 1 more door to go!

Sprayed some Jotun mastic primer (same stuff as epoxy mastic) around the door edges and window frame as figure this is where the problems always take hold, considering how heavy the paint is to mix, after thinning it sprays and covers really well.

I'm on a push to get it painted before Christmas, the end is in sight!

  11. Great job on the sliding door  Your door gaps are looking good too.

Your really pushing ahead. It'll be in paint before you know it.

    Thanks for the comments guys,

Did a little bit over the weekend, Started on passenger cab door, and spent about 3 hours cleaning the old door rubbers, and glue from the channel around the edge of the door, then started to poke about what looked like a small hole on the lower rear edge where they all go...... a bit more poking revealed more rot than I had anticipated,

Ended up cutting the bottom corner out, rust treating it and then making a new panel ready to go in, but forgot to get photos.

And its getting colder now, down to 8 degrees when I left the workshop this evening.

Been working on it today, finishing what I started yesterday, and am quite pleased with my work albeit time consuming.

Took some better pictures, the door didnt look too bad from the outside...

Welded up a couple of small holes on the front edge, that didnt seem too bad, buzzed the paint off all round the bottom edge of the door to look for holes and soft bits, luckily nothing to worry about, it just seems to have mainly gone on the rear most edge.

Got cutting, as wasnt convinced the metal here would hold out much longer,

No during pics but made this panel from 3 templates.

    And it fits nicely,

Welded, and a couple of strips set in from behind to aid filling any small gaps,

So the inner frame is finished aside from a bit of filler to tidy, now just the outside corner to put on, but I wanted to get some epoxy paint inbetween the water traps/strengtheners and gaps before closing the door up. so thats as far as I got today.

A bit more progress, trying to keep the momentum up!

Cab door all repaired, stripped, epoxy primed inside the bottom edge and then etched and primed,

Started the battery tray replacement, to realise it only needed a patch, the rest is original and I ideally didnt want to get involved in more filler work on the outside of the quarter, so tonight just got it all cleaned up and rust treated, and screwed my patch repair in place ready to weld this weekend.

Got a couple of small repairs to make in the corner to the base of the wheelarch, and whilst poking about on the quarter/side panel seam, an old repair weld on the panel seams has cracked through to the outside, meaning I'll be doing a repair on the outside side panel/quarter seam ::)
