  2. Theres two types of waxoyl
Theres undebody seal with added waxoyl which is a black sticky substance that dries on the surface but remains tacky and flexible underneath

Then theres waxoyl cavity wax which is almost clear and is used inside box sections and sills etc

Waxoyl is brown, a bit like creosote, so you would loose the clear colour look - you can get clear waxoyl but that isnt for under body protection in areas like wheel wells - it would be washed off.

So waxoyls isnt the best for what you want I think.

  4. If you want protection fron stone chips etc in the arches but want to retain the painted look then you will need to spray stone chip in there and then overpaint body colour

  7. If its been stonechipped then theres no point in applying underbody seal with waxoyl as it will just sit on top of the stonechip

It is however wise to get all the box sections etc and inside all the interior panels coated with waxoyl cavity wax as it helps prevent rotting from the inside out

  10. just doing mine at min and again i dont like black under arches as its not how they came from the factory and can look like its hidding something, my under aches were zinc primed, then 2k high build primed, then flatted back, then 2k painted, they adhesive sealed flanges and joints then gravitex'ed then repainted in 2k colour thats it.
p.s. gravitex can be tinted with top coat colour and painted under the arches that way it cant chip the top coat of leaving the gravitex colour under the top coat of paint

  11. Well 13 window deluxe knows how to get the job done properly. Problem is most buses have paint/rust/whatever under their wheel arches. If yours wasn't first treated with zinc primer, you certainly need extra protection. Also remember that in the (late) 70s the auto industry did not waste much of its budget on anti-corrosion. That's why they came out of the factory with bare paint in the wheel arches, not for any design reason. The fact that buses have lasted is down to rugged construction and good quality German steel! People often admire my bus but none has mentioned my lovely (or otherwise) wheel arches yet, so I prefer a good coat of black underseal (with added Waxoyl of course) and the wheel arches fade into the background. New cars seem to have lots of plastic around to protect the undersides as well as zinc dip, phosphate primers and other stuff.
But if you have lovely metal I don't blame you for showing it off.

  12. think it's just cause im sad ;D fact of the mater is most people are happy to have black arches if it means there van goes though the mot every year without out welding and some people still drive there van over the winter etc so need to be well waxoyl'ed my own van had dealer waxed under body (ziebart i think?) was a pig to strip but had kept the factory paint and metal mint. im doing a custom resto ground up with shell on a rotiserie and ive got a diesel daily and a split for camping so i dont have to do every job in a weekend to get to work on monday so there is no time limit on the job just want it to look right when im finished not concourse though or your scared to use it just a reasonable stock looking van

  13. My bus had the factory underseal on and ive it to thank that my bus wasent as rotten as a lot of european busses ive seen

It was a pain in the back and the neck removing the old stuff off the underside though

so far it's been painted when i get time it needs re-sealing, gravitexing then repainting but been busy with car mot and work. another thing is i always like working under a painted bus more that a black one

  15. Hi guy's i have been in to land rover's for a while and there is a company that is very good for underbody sealing they are called before and after http://www.before-n-after.co.uk/ they basically steam clean the underneath of the vehicle and remove all the old sealant and if they find any welding that need's doing they can do it for you or you can take it away and fix it and then they can either apply waxoyl or put there special sealant on and it is guaranteed after it is done to not rust might be a good idea for any one who has spent alot on the underbody?

  16. and landrovers can rust! if it can stop one of those rusting it must be good :))
